In trying times, we could all use a helping hand. Literally.
In an all-new clip courtesy of Netflix’s annual Tudum fan event, Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) discovers a stowaway: disembodied hand Thing, who’s been sent by her meddlesome parents to keep an eye (or, um, a finger) on her as she heads off to boarding school at Nevermore Academy. Check out the clip from Wednesday above.
The original Addams Family television series’ conception of Thing (full name: Thing T. Thing) was as a full creature, so horrifying in form that only his hands can be visible by humans. In Barry Sonnenfeld’s duo of 1990s Addams Family films, Thing was reimagined more simply, as a severed hand. The new design has been maintained ever since.

One thing the character has never lacked? Personality. That’s certainly the case here — Thing may only be a hand, but he’s able to spin, bow, creep, and gesture with more attitude and enthusiasm than most full-sized actors. And he’ll need every inch of that energy to give Wednesday the assist she needs, as she navigates the twisted web of politics and magical murder that Nevermore has to offer. Even someone as pathologically unfriendly as Wednesday Addams needs at least one partner in crime.
Alongside Ortega and Thing as himself, Wednesday stars Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers and Hunter Doohan. Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar serve as showrunners, and goth god Tim Burton himself directed several episodes.
Wednesday is coming to Netflix soon. Get ready to give it some snaps.
