Emma Myers: The song that they used was not out yet.
Corey Baker: I remember reading the script and seeing, "This will be to Lady Gaga." It was very top secret.
Emma: We weren't allowed to hear it.
Corey: It's very James Bond.
[lively mysterious music playing]
[Clip] Agnes: I'll dance with you.
Enid: You don't know my choreography.
Corey: In the script, there was a dance sequence. There was an artist, Lady Gaga. There was a couple of story beats written in.
Evie Templeton: Working with Corey, who's a wonderful choreographer, we did some sessions. But we started about a week before we shot that scene, just a couple of days building stuff.
Corey: Me and about four or five dancers had about a week to come up with some ideas. And then we brought that to Emma and Evie and sort of set it on them. And in that process, they naturally fed in.
[Clip] Playback.
Emma: Rehearsing it was tricky because the song that they used was not out yet. It was very top secret. We weren't even allowed to hear it. We could only dance to the drum beat.
[Clip] One, two, three, four…
[lively music playing] …five, six, seven, eight.
Emma: They had a count track.
[Clip] Three, two, three, four.
Corey: I didn't know that it was gonna be a brand new Lady Gaga track when I first was brought onto this job. And then we went on a whole process of figuring out how I would be able to hear the song in secret. One point, they were just gonna fly me to LA to go listen to it once in a room. At another point, they were gonna send it to me on an expiring link that could only listen to it once; it was all very James Bond.
[Clip] I know you're still here.
[whirring sound] Finally, some originality. I don't care what you think about me anymore. Good.
[intriguing music playing] What's the plan?
Emma: It was like two days straight of dancing in very restricting clothes. I had heels, and then I also had my corset. The string was actually a ribbon. I couldn't breathe and I couldn't move. When we changed over to the dancing, I had jazz shoes, and they swapped out the ribbon for, like, an elastic, which helped so much.
Evie: The whole costume team were absolutely fabulous in making sure it was comfortable to dance in and to move in for me and Emma. So yeah, they just took the skirt up at the back, loosened the corset a bit so I had a little bit of breathing space.
Emma: It's also really hard with the VFX of it all, trying to get Evie in and out in a clean way. So, we had to film all these takes, then go back and do them again with just me because she can't be there. They built rigs for some of the lifts for me to, like, fly on, essentially.
Corey: It has been an incredible journey and it's such an honor to collaborate with Tim Burton. Working with him on ‘Wednesday’ has been such a treat because this world is so iconic, and to work with, you know, the likes of Lady Gaga and these incredible actors is just such a joy.
Evie: This experience has been so surreal. I'm actually quite speechless.
Emma: I have never had that much fun filming something.
Corey: Those girls are incredible, and they have done a phenomenal job.
