The Straw Hats are setting sail — and you can come along for the voyage to the East Blue, too. To celebrate the release of the live-action adaptation of ONE PIECE, Eiichiro Oda’s bestselling manga of all time, Netflix is hosting 10 global events to unite Straw Hats all around the world ahead of the series premiere on Aug. 31.
The celebrations officially kicked off on Thursday, Sep. 24 in Los Angeles at the Santa Monica Pier. From Straw Hats to villains, over 2,500 attendees showed up dressed as their favorite characters — the Den Den Mushi even made a special appearance. Anderson .Paak welcomed fans as they entered the Pier with a live DJ set before they enjoyed private access to rides, games, in-world photo ops, food and drinks, and — of course — a first look screening of Episode 1. After the episode ended, the iconic Santa Monica Pier ferris wheel was lit up as the Jolly Roger and fans were treated to a surprise ONE PIECE-inspired drone show which illuminated the night sky with characters from the beloved manga including Luffy, Buggy, dancing straw hats, and even a tribute to Oda.
