Did You Catch This ‘Heartstopper’ Easter Egg in ‘First Kill’?

Or were you too busy making heart eyes at Cal and Jules?

Pucker up, First Kill fans. Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Calliope (Imani Lewis)’s love story on the vampy series may be kind of gory, but it’s guaranteed to make your heart skip a beat more than once.

In fact, there’s a particular, ahem, heartstopping moment that calls to mind another queer love story that’s slightly less supernatural, unless you count the animated sparks flying between the show’s central couple. Yes, we’re talking about none other than Heartstopper.

You might remember in Episode 1 of First Kill, “First Kiss,” Juliette’s older sister Elinor (Gracie Dzienny) helps her get ready for a party — and for her first kill as a baby vamp. Elinor advises her “Sweet Little” on her entire look, from her outfit to her hair jewelry. Just as Elinor picks the perfect lip shade for Juliette, eagle-eyed viewers might clock a special label on the bottom of the lipstick tube. What’s it called? You guessed it: “Heartstopper.”

“Just remember,” Elinor tells her before handing her the lipstick, “Stay calm, be prepared and always finish what you start.”

Well... she started to bite Calliope at the party with her “heartstopping” lips later that evening, but she didn’t exactly finish, because then we wouldn’t have a season-long romance, now would we?

However, being prepared does come in handy for Juliette later on in the season, since in the finale, “First Betrayal,” she’s able to tell which vamp has been stirring up trouble with her girlfriend’s family at the local watering hole, the appropriately named Wooden Stake. How so?

Well, she heads to the bar with her love after Calliope’s brother Apollo (Dominic Goodman) says over the phone that their older brother Theo (Phillip Mullings Jr.) is in trouble. Stabbed with a stake kind of trouble, that is.

But after Apollo and Calliope clear the scene and Juliette cleans up the mess, she walks outside and trips over a lipstick tube — Elinor’s lipstick tube, with “Heartstopper” emblazoned on the bottom. Which means, Elinor is at the center of whatever sticky situation went down and it’s game over as far as sisterhood is concerned.

Who would’ve thought a lipstick would have sparked such a deep bond and deep rift between sisters? It looks like just another heart-stopping moment in this star-crossed tale of vampires and vampire-hunters.
