Narrator: Season 5 of ‘Love Is Blind’ is here, and this one is chock-full of drama, spicy connections, and several plot twists. Season 5 had so many zigs and zags that we’ve unpacked the most jaw-dropping moments that were sure to have fans riveted. 

Narrator: Uche and Aaliyah’s relationship started out promising, but their blossoming romance faced a major hiccup when the ICU nurse revealed that she had recently cheated on an ex-boyfriend. Uche wasn’t happy to hear that and shut down the conversation, which lead Aaliyah to leave the pod in tears. The following day, Uche apologized to Aaliyah for being critical of her past and shared that he had issues with people lying to him. Their future looked hopeful, until Uche dropped shocking news of his own. He revealed that he and Lydia, who was also Aaliyah’s closest friend on the show, had dated for several months prior to ‘Love Is Blind.’ After the initial shock wore off, Aaliyah forgave him. Uche was geared up to propose, but in another plot twist, his love was nowhere to be found. After discovering Aaliyah had gone home, a heartbroken Uche asked a producer to call her, and she tearfully told him she didn’t want to continue with the experiment anymore.

[CLIP] [Aaliyah on phone] 

[CLIP] Aaliyah: If that’s how you feel, maybe we don’t need to keep talking. 

[CLIP] Uche: No, we’re not gonna keep talking, Aaliyah.

Narrator: JP and Taylor had a strong connection from the start. By only the second episode, they were the first couple to get engaged.

[CLIP] JP: Will you marry me?

[CLIP] Taylor: Yes! [laughs]

Narrator: But by the time they started their vacation in Mexico, it seemed as if their chemistry had gone basic. The awkward moments between JP and Taylor seemed to stretch out as long as the horizon.

[CLIP] Taylor: So, what do you wanna talk about?

[CLIP] JP: I don’t know.

[sound of crickets chirping]

Narrator: Taylor initially chalked it up to nerves, but by their second night in Mexico, it had become clear there was more standing between them now than there had been in the pod. According to JP, there was another reason for his lack of conversational skills. 

[CLIP] JP: But I feel like if you would’ve presented yourself like this, without any makeup, it would have been better.

[tense music plays] 

[CLIP] Taylor: So the way I looked made you communicate differently? 

[CLIP] JP: It felt like you were fake.

Narrator: Suffice it to say, she broke things off with him. And hopefully the plane ride home wasn’t as awkward as JP’s kisses.

[CLIP] [laughs] 

[CLIP] Taylor: Stinky breath.

[CLIP] JP: Sorry.

[CLIP] Lydia: Hello? Who’s this? 

[CLIP] Uche: Uh, my name is Uche.

Narrator: It was a heck of a coincidence that Lydia and Uche both landed on ‘Love Is Blind’ together. And maybe it wasn’t a coincidence after all. It turns out that the geologist’s history with Uche wasn’t as rock solid as it seemed. The whole shocking backstory unraveled for viewers during a meeting with Aaliyah after she ghosted Uche.

[CLIP] Uche: A couple of weeks after we started dating, I found out she was doing things to invade my privacy. 

[CLIP] Woman: Right. 

[CLIP] Uche: And she lied to me about it.

Narrator: After he broke up with her, Uche shared that Lydia kept trying to contact him and gave her another shot. However, Uche accused Lydia of stalking his Instagram friends, and revealed that at least once, she drove by his house. 

[CLIP] Uche: She takes a picture of my driveway, and she texts it to me with a message that says, “I see you.”

Narrator: Uche shared his suspicions about Lydia following him onto the show in Episode 8 during the party with his castmates. 

Uche: I found out that she knew I was being cast … for the experiment.

[CLIP]

[suspenseful music plays] 

[CLIP] Uche: She wanted us to be on this experiment together. She ruined anything that me and Aaliyah could’ve had.

Narrator: The love triangle between Stacy, Johnie, and Izzy was messy enough. But when Johnie got rejected by him and turned her sights back on Chris, it seemed as if everyone would go about their ways happily, until the foursome came face-to-face. Izzy tried to warn Chris about Johnie’s seemingly shady ways, and how she flip-flopped between her two choices. Izzy told a very surprised Chris that Johnie had professed her love for him four times. Their bro talk almost turned into a brawl between the ladies when they joined the conversation.

[CLIP] Johnie: I think you’re deceitful. 

[CLIP] Stacy: How?

[CLIP] Johnie:  Every conversation we had about Izzy, you didn’t tell me he was one of your strongest connections. You never told me it was Izzy. Oh my God, everyone knew it was Izzy. 

[CLIP] Stacy: No. And I didn’t say anything —

[CLIP] Johnie: You didn’t say anything ’cause why?

[CLIP] Stacy: What do I owe you? I don’t trust you. Honestly, if you knew it was me, you’d have acted completely different with him. You know, I feel bad for shedding a damn tear for you.

Narrator: Chris, in his quiet way, tried to defend Johnie, while a disgusted Stacy walked away. Stacy and Izzy had their fair share of ups and downs. And a serious talk about finances right before the wedding created tension between the two. However, when the big day finally came, the bride and groom seemed excited to start their new life together. As Stacy walked down the aisle and met Izzy at the altar, the two declared their love for each other. When the officiant asked him if he accepted Stacy as his wife, Izzy gave a resounding yes. When it was her turn, all roads pointed to her saying yes as well. But after an excruciatingly long pause, she told him she needed more time. 

[CLIP] Johnie: So for me today, I can’t. I hope you understand that.

Narrator: Izzy sadly walked out alone and still very much unmarried. Stacy told Izzy outside that she still loved him, and that she was ready to keep trying. But the turn of events clearly came as a blow to Izzy. 

[CLIP] Stacy: I’m still standing here with you. 

[CLIP] Izzy: Yeah, well, I mean, we’re, like, at different spots. It really breaks my heart.

Narrator: Will this passionate couple make it, or is this the end for them?

[CLIP] Izzy: I just wanna be loved the way that I love.

[CLIP] [melancholy music plays]

Narrator: Lydia was determined to find her forever partner on ‘Love Is Blind,’ and she got her wish. After getting rejected by Izzy, she poured out her heart to Milton during a date, and it wasn’t long before they were set to walk down the aisle together.

[CLIP] Milton: You gonna be my Puerto Rican wife?

[both laughing] 

[CLIP] Lydia: Yes, I will be your Puerto Rican wife.

Narrator: The road to marriage didn’t come without its challenges, and it wasn’t just their vast height difference. Milton’s mother and sister had doubts about their relationship. 

[CLIP] Milton’s mom: Just curious on whether someone 30 would be interested in a 24-year-old. 

[CLIP] Milton’s sister: ’Cause it’s phony.

Narrator: Their differences also came up during a romantic date, where Milton confided that he thought Lydia sometimes got too emotional, which she felt judged for. Uche even got Milton alone to tell him that trusting Lydia might not be a good idea. Despite all the hiccups, Lydia and Milton made it to the altar together and said “I do.” And to everyone’s surprise, they walked away as ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 5’s happy ending.

[CLIP] Lydia: He’s definitely everything I’ve asked for in a guy and a little bit more.
