    ‘Your Place or Mine’ Has Some ‘Crazy’ Casting

    The rom-com’s director also created Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Can you spot the cameos?

When Aline Brosh McKenna, the writer and director of Your Place or Mine, was filling out the cast of her latest rom-com, she called on some Exes for help.

In fact, the film, which stars Reese Witherspoon (Debbie) and Ashton Kutcher (Peter) as FaceTime-crossed lovers, is a veritable Easter egg hunt for fans of Brosh McKenna’s musical dramedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. “When you’re making a movie, you need people who can stick the landing in those smaller parts,” says the rom-com maestro. “And I knew these folks would.”

Casting the Crazy crew also came with the added benefit of being a reunion of sorts for this tight-knit group who worked together for four seasons. “We all miss each other, so it’s a fun opportunity to spend time together,” she says. “There are so many close relationships that came from that show.”

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Rebecca, a flighty, selfish lawyer who dreams of being a musical theater star. She abruptly moves to California to chase a doomed romance… and is strangled (figuratively) by anxiety.

Your Place or Mine: Scarlett, a flighty, selfish babysitter, who dreams of being a TV star. She abruptly moves to Vancouver to chase the role of a doomed maid… who’s strangled (literally) by the lead of the show.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Heather, Rebecca’s take-no-BS, vocal-fried millennial neighbor who slacks her way through most of the series.  

Your Place or Mine: Becca, Peter’s take-no-BS girlfriend who’d eat vocal-fried millennials for breakfast and then floss her teeth with their bones.
