The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) embarking on a victory tour through the dozen districts. While visiting District 11, Peeta honors Rue (Amandla Stenberg) and Thresh (Dayo Okeniyi) — the region’s competitors in the deadly tournament.
“Our lives aren’t just measured in years,” Peeta says to the crowd. “They’re measured in the lives of people we touch around us. For myself, for Katniss, we know that without Rue, and without Thresh, we wouldn’t be standing here today.”
The same can be said of the standout stories and unforgettable characters that shape who we are. That includes the conflicted couples of Out of Africa and The Vow, the brave crews of Apollo 13 and U-571, the underdog athletes of A League of Their Own and Cinderella Man, and the charismatic candymaker of both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. These titles — as well as all five Hunger Games movies — are among the movies and shows leaving Netflix in October.
There’s still time to volunteer as tribute (as Katniss famously did) and visit these films and series before they go. Program your own double feature — throw on Fargo and Nomadland for back-to-back Frances McDormand films, pair Baby Mama and The Boss Baby for lots of newborn-centric humor, or watch Clueless and High Fidelity for two very different inner monologues. Will you be able to stream it all in time? May the odds be ever in your favor.
Make sure to watch all these titles — and plenty more — before they leave Netflix in the US in October.
