The key to a great Christmas romantic comedy is in the casting — all the mistletoe in the world won’t mean a thing if the chemistry isn’t there. Thankfully, the new Netflix holiday rom-com Single All the Way is overflowing with it, especially between the film’s two lead actors. In fact, this cast might be too charming.
Single All the Way centers around the newly single Peter (Michael Urie), who brings his best friend home for the holidays with the intent of pretending they’re a couple, only to be set up on a blind date by his mother. Viewers will see a lot of familiar faces — like comedic legend Jennifer Coolidge and Halloween legend Kathy Najimy — as well as a few new ones. Here’s everything you need to know about the Single All the Way cast, from where you’ve seen them before to where you can find them next.

Michael Urie stars as Peter, a social media exec who gets his best friend, Nick, to go home with him for the holidays after he learns that his boyfriend is — spoiler alert — married to a woman. Suddenly single, he now wants Nick to pretend to be his boyfriend for the holidays, but his mother, Carole, has other plans.
Urie has been acting professionally for about two decades, but he’s best known for playing Mark in ABC’s Ugly Betty. He starred in all four seasons of the dramedy and was nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards, along with the rest of the cast.
Since Ugly Betty ended in 2010, Urie has continued to work steadily in television, starring in the short-lived sitcom Partners in 2013 and becoming a regular guest star on Younger. He’s also a Broadway vet: Urie is currently starring in the new play Chicken & Biscuits, and his theater credits include Grand Horizons, in which he starred alongside Ashley Park (Emily In Paris) and Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song.

Newcomer Philemon Chambers plays Nick, Peter’s best friend/roommate who works as a TaskRabbit to pay the bills while writing his next children’s book. He sacrifices his Christmas staycation plans with his dog by agreeing to accompany Peter on his trip home, learning a little bit about himself along the way.
Chambers doesn’t have a lot of credits — just one short film, Of Hearts and Castles, which screened at Outfest Los Angeles film festival in 2020. According to his Instagram, he’s had bit parts on All Rise and Grownish, and he’s also done some modelling. Single All the Way is his first major role.

Luke Macfarlane plays James, a local spin instructor whom Peter is set up with while he’s home visiting. Peter’s mom, one of James’ students, is convinced they’d hit it off and insists they meet. And to Peter’s surprise, they do make a connection.
Macfarlane is no stranger to on-screen romances. He starred in Brothers & Sisters as Scotty Wandell, whose romance with Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) became a staple of the show — and was one of the many reasons the show was nominated for multiple GLAAD Media Awards over the course of its five-season run. Single All the Way also isn’t his first Christmas movie — it’s not even his only Christmas movie this year. Over the years, he’s become a bit of a Hallmark Channel staple, appearing in 2018’s A Shoe Addict’s Christmas and 2020’s Chateau Christmas. In addition to Single All the Way, he’s also featured in this year’s Hallmark Channel wintertime romance, Taking A Shot At Love.

Kathy Najimy plays Peter’s mom, Carole, a woman so obsessed with the holiday season that she insists on being called “Christmas Carole” the entire month of December. Eager to see her only son settle down, Christmas Carole gets a little too enthusiastically involved with his love life.
Najimy starred in both Hocus Pocus and the Sister Act movies, which makes her a patron saint of millennials. Most recently, she had recurring roles on Veep, as Wendy Keegan, and Younger, playing Denise Heller.

Jennifer Coolidge steals the show as Aunt Sandy, Peter’s eccentric actor-aunt who’s heading up the hometown Christmas pageant. She’s got a flair for the dramatic and loves a good one-liner.
Fans know Coolidge from her work with writer-director Christopher Guest, appearing in Best In Show and A Mighty Wind, among other comedies. She’s also known as Stifler’s mom from American Pie, Hilary Duff’s evil stepmom in A Cinderella Story and, of course, Paulette in Legally Blonde.

Lisa, Peter’s big sister who is secretly rooting for Peter and Nick to end up together, is played by Jennifer Robertson. Best known for playing Jocelyn Schitt in Schitt’s Creek, Robertson also stars in the Netflix series Ginny & Georgia. Like Macfarlane, Robertson is a seasoned (pun intended) Christmas movie star; she also appeared in the 2016 film Holiday Joy.

Barry Bostwick rounds out the cast as Harold, Peter’s dad who bonds with Nick during their stay. Another holiday movie vet, Bostwick has appeared in many a Christmas production — he’s even played Santa! Fans may recognize Bostwick from his 30-plus-year career, during which he took on recurring roles on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Cougar Town, Scandal, and Law & Order: SVU. But perhaps he’s best known for playing Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (he also appeared in the special Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed Glee episode).
Unfortunately, Bostwick doesn’t appear to be on social media, but isn’t that just such a typical movie-dad move?
