My current Netflix crush is… Sierra Capri from On My Block and Abigail Cowen from Fate. My love language is… physical touch and quality time.
What would your dating app profile say?
“On a vegan journey while learning lines.”
Single All the Way is your first feature film. What was your experience like shooting it?
It was honestly such a dream come true. From the moment I got the offer, it was like, “You’ve got to be kidding me.” Everybody on set literally became this family. We were there for each other. It was something that I looked forward to every day. Every day I woke up, I was excited because I knew it was going to be something fun. Chad Hodge, our executive producer and writer, included me in the process and development of Nick. Having me tell my Black experience and it being heard was monumental.
What was it like being in the company of Michael Urie, Kathy Najimy and Jennifer Coolidge?
Being in the company of icons and royalty? Oh geez. Every moment was a “pinch-me” type of situation. These are people I've looked up to for a long time. And to be acting alongside them, to have a voice, to be heard with theirs was just one of those things that I couldn’t wrap my head around.
In Single All The Way, Nick and Peter have feelings for each other but are too afraid to acknowledge them. Have you ever been friendzoned or friendzoned someone else?
Yeah, I feel like that’s a common thing we don’t talk about. If you have a best friend, who’s to say you can’t start to develop feelings? It’s kind of inevitable because once you love somebody, that love can transform and expand into something completely different than you ever thought possible.
I have friendzoned many people, and it's one of those things. I'm not mad because I'm understanding. I've also been on the other end of that. I ended up falling for my best friend at one point in time, and I had an open and honest conversation.
How are you similar to and different from Nick?
I’m very similar to Nick. Nick is very kind, very sweet, very giving. Also, he puts his friends first. The only thing I will say is that I would’ve had a conversation [with Peter] way before.
There’s a dance scene to “My Only Wish (This Year)” by Britney Spears. What’s your favorite holiday song?
Okay, so I’m an oldie when it comes to it. I like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. But, giving honorable mention to them, I’ll have to say Faith Hill’s “Where Are You Christmas?”
What’s the best holiday gift you’ve ever given and received?
When I was 16, my mom was like, “Okay, you’re 16. You know Santa Claus doesn’t exist. Or at least I hope you do. What do you want for Christmas?” I thought about it long and hard, and all I wanted for Christmas wasThe Golden Girls DVD set. At the time, I was really into [that] show. Honestly, that’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten. I love me some Betty White.
The best Christmas gift I’ve ever given? I’m big on family, and for Christmas, I make sure I visit all my family. Regardless if it’s a monetary gift or anything tangible, they have my time.
Which Golden Girls character do you identify with?
I love Rose, but I also love Dorothy. I love Estelle Getty’s character — she is just a little spitfire. “Picture it: Sicily, 1984!” But, Rose.
As fans crush on you, what’s one thing they would be most surprised to know?
I love anime. I also have a very eclectic taste in music. I listen to Celtic, opera, metal, country, R&B, EDM, literally everything. I also know the lyrics to all of the songs in my phone, which is about 6,557 as of today.
