In the decades since Marilyn Monroe’s death in 1962, questions continue to surround her name, with much still to be discovered about the iconic actor. Now previously unreleased recordings will hopefully provide answers to some of those lingering questions.
Debuting on Netflix next month, The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes aims to shine new light on some of the darkest realities surrounding Monroe’s death, through the words of members of her inner circle at the time. “Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe's tragic death spawned conspiracies and rumors for decades, often overshadowing her talent and shrewdness,” the official synopsis reads. “By piecing together her final weeks, days and hours through previously unheard recordings of those who knew her best, this feature illuminates more of her glamorous, complicated life, and offers a new perspective on that fateful night.”

In a short teaser that begins with a close-up of Monroe’s face, we hear a voice-over that reminds us: “The true things rarely get into circulation — it’s usually the false things. It’s hard to know where to start if you don’t start with the truth.”

The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes is directed by Emma Cooper and executive produced by Chris Smith. It debuts on Netflix April 27.
