In just a few weeks, the world will get a never-before-seen look at Marilyn Monroe’s final days in the upcoming documentary The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes. From director Emma Cooper and executive producer Chris Smith, this project compiles previously unheard recordings from some of the members of Monroe’s inner circle in order to weave together the truth about the Hollywood icon’s life — and address some of those still-unanswered questions about her death.
In the official trailer released today, we get a glimpse at some of the most memorable Monroe moments (yes, including that infamous shot of her skirt blowing atop a sidewalk grate). “How do you go about writing a life story?” a voice-over asks in the beginning. “The true things rarely get into circulation. It’s usually the false things.”
From there, we see shots from 1982, when the case of Monroe’s death from two decades prior was formally reopened. “The interviews have never been heard until now,” another voice-over tells us.
Through clips of Marilyn’s childhood juxtaposed with glittery stardom, the documentary uncovers a sense of the dark realities. “Marilyn and the truth,” a voice-over says toward the end of the 90-second teaser, “I indeed found out things that had not been found out before.”
You can watch the trailer below, and then tune in on April 27, when The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes makes its debut, along with all the secrets that come with it.
