When the world knows who you are, how do you hide in plain sight? That’s the new challenge Assane Diop (Omar Sy) was poised to face as Lupin closed its last chapter — and now, Part 3 promises a new disappearing act from our cleverest gentleman thief. 

The first teaser for the forthcoming installment of the French series was revealed during Netflix’s global fan event, Tudum 2022, and as it shows us, being a brilliant con artist (even an often well-intentioned one) can come with its own brand of ennui. 

In the clip, Assane — a son of Senegalese immigrants who uses the ruses of French fictional master-of-disguise Arsène Lupin to trick, evade and conceal — runs down the list of challenges he’s faced thus far (and no, we’re not talking rabbits out of hats here). “I avenged my father,” he says. “I had to protect my family. I wanted to stay in the shadows, but I entered the light. Now, watch me disappear.”

Now that the world knows his name, his face and his list of alleged crimes, France’s most famous thief is tasked with stealing away — but that definitely doesn’t mean that he’ll sit idly in hiding. Bien sûr, there’s the matter of clearing his name and continuing to protect the ones he loves at all costs. So that means he’ll have to get even more creative with his infamous masks.
