Awards season started off with a bang on Jan. 7 at the 81st Annual Golden Globes. On and off the Globes stage, actors shared special moments with one another and gave credit where it was due. For instance, when BEEF was awarded Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, director and writer Lee Sung Jin, made sure to thank his counterpart in the real-life road rage incident that inspired the show. “I’d be remiss not to thank that driver,” he said. “Sir, I hope you honk and yell and inspire others for years to come.”

While presenters got some laughs as they made their way through some long category titles, viewers watched their favorite stars hike through a maze-like seating arrangement to reach the stage. “It smells like hot sushi in here,” presenter Will Ferrell exclaimed in hour three of the ceremony. Jokes aside, there was no shortage of talent, with Netflix taking home a total of five awards. Ali Wong and Steven Yeun finally squashed their BEEF at the ceremony, as each actor took home an award for best performance by an actress and an actor, respectively, in a limited series for BEEF. Wong became the first actress of Asian descent to win in the limited series/TV movie category.

Elizabeth Debicki was Crown-ed for her memorable performance of Princess Diana as she navigated the rigid rules that govern the House of Windsor in The Crown. And Ricky Gervais’ takes on political correctness won him an award for his stand-up comedy special Ricky Gervais: Armageddon.
