The Western frontier just got a little bigger; Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Sex Education) is joining upcoming action drama The Abandons, alongside the previously announced Lena Headey. Anderson is coming off of her second Emmy win, this time for her turn as Margaret Thatcher on The Crown. She’ll play Constance, the matriarch of the wealthy Van Ness family who inherited her husband’s mining fortune — then doubled it. In the dusty, dangerous landscape of the West, Constance’s money and charm have cleared a path for her to consolidate power in the most ruthless of manners.

From Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, The Abandons tells the story of a group of diverse families in 1850s Oregon. Headey plays Fiona, the devout adoptive mother of four young orphans. When a corrupt and powerful force conspires to push these abandoned souls off of their land, they find themselves in a deadly clash for the right to Manifest Destiny. As blood is spilled, the line between survival and the law becomes increasingly blurry.
