Luke Newton and Claudia Jessie might be hard at work filming Bridgerton Season 3 right now, but they still found time for a little sibling bonding. The actors, who play Colin and Eloise Bridgerton, got together at Tudum 2022, Netflix's annual global fan event, to partake in some painting and a heart-to-heart about their characters. In true Bridgerton family fashion, these two didn’t hold back.
To kick off the conversation, Jessie asked Newton why Colin couldn’t see that Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) was his “true love” match. “Because they met when they were so young in the cutest way possible,” Newton replied, referencing the meet-cute that first brought the couple (known as Polin) together in the Bridgerton book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. In the Julia Quinn novel, teenage Penelope’s bonnet flies off her head and directly into the path of a horseback-riding Colin. He falls off the steed. Penelope falls in love.

“It’s such a lovely story,” Newton said while painting. After all, this get-together wasn’t a simple gabfest. Newton and Jessie were also tasked with creating the perfect portrait of their TV sibling while they dished on their characters. Newton’s picture took a turn for the “deeply terrifying,” as Jessie called it, as he pondered the inner workings of Colin’s soul.
Jessie’s piece of art also had a hiccup — Newton’s hair started growing out of a wildly unexpected place — as she got distracted delving into Eloise’s psyche. Newton questioned Jessie about which part of learning Penelope’s true identity as Lady Whistledown “crushed” Eloise the most.
“The lies! The lies,” Jessie dramatically yelled. “It’s probably slightly humiliating because she now will look back at that time when she’s been on these mad quests and altercations with the Queen [to unmask Whistledown]. And Penelope saw all of it.”
Lady Whistledown herself, aka Coughlan, might have something to say about that. Watch the video to see a surprise special guest and the unforgettable reveals of Newton and Jessie’s portraits. Then come back to Tudum on Sept 28 for a very special surprise, gentle reader. Because those pieces of art may just be heading to one lucky fan’s mantle. Even Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) would be green with envy.
With five distinct celebrations, Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event includes first-look photos, never-before-seen footage, new trailers, behind-the-scenes access, celebrity appearances, interviews, and more from over 100 of your favorite series, films and specials.
