Welcome to New Raccoon City: The weather’s fine! At least, right now it is. In the near future, it might be slightly more, well, apocalyptic. After an outbreak of the dreaded T-virus, the city is about to go from a must-see destination to a musty desecration more familiar to fans of the popular horror video games. As Netflix’s Geeked Week continues, we’ve got a new trailer and key art for the upcoming Resident Evil series.

If you managed to find the alternate teaser hidden in a QR code in the first Resident Evil trailer, you already know the show’s origin story. In the series, the T-virus is contained within an Umbrella Corporation miracle drug called Joy; unfortunately the miracle in miracle drug is a growing hunger for human flesh. The series is written and produced by Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) and follows Jade Wesker (Ella Balinska), an apocalypse survivor trying to stay one step ahead of the hordes of T-Virus-infected creatures who follow her every move. This struggle is only compounded as Jade dwells on her past in New Raccoon City — and what happened to her family there. The series also stars Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nuñez.
Dabb calls the original Resident Evil his favorite game of all time, and he’s redefined it for this new series. While it may not follow the narrative of any of the games, the trailer showcases plenty of familiar imagery, from the series’ trademark “lickers” to a giant T-Virus-infected spider. We’re sure there will only be more Easter eggs to discover when Resident Evil hits Netflix on July 14.
