Ew! Why is there slime everywhere? Was there some kind of chemical accident? Oh, no, it’s just some stray ectoplasm from the newly announced Ghostbusters animated series! What a relief.
That’s right: As Geeked Week continues, Netflix is announcing a partnership with Ghostbusters production house Ghost Corps (pronounced “core,” not “corpse”; “Ghost Corpse” would be a little redundant). The new series will be executive produced by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, co-writers of the most recent Ghostbusters entry, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the original Ghostbusters features.

Before taking the directing chair on the franchise his father helped create, the younger Reitman garnered multiple Oscar nominations for films like Juno and Up in the Air. Kenan is also an Oscar nominee, for his animated frightfest Monster House. The new show will join a whole host of movie-inspired animated series on Netflix, including Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Fast & Furious Spy Racers and the upcoming Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight.

This isn’t the first time the Ghostbusters universe has gone animated, The 1980s and ’90s saw The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters take over the small screen. There’s no word yet on which Ghostbusters team this new series will follow, whether it’s the original lineup, the rebooted female cast, the junior roster introduced in Afterlife, some combination of the above or a whole new team. For now, you can rest assured: If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, someone will be on the job.
