Sometimes John Mulaney gets nervous on airplanes. And sometimes he announces another much-anticipated stand-up show. Today, the latter is happening, as the upcoming Netflix Is a Joke festival is revealing a slew of buzzy new events — adding to an already stacked slate of comedy concerts (to quote a certain reboot), live tapings and celebrity BFF hangs happening around Los Angeles between April 28 and May 8.
Mulaney’s new Netflix Is a Joke stand-up show will take place at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, May 7, as part of his From Scratch tour. Formal wear, like the Kid Gorgeous comedian’s signature suits, is encouraged. The news comes after Mulaney already confirmed a May 3 show for the festival; that performance will take place at the Forum in Inglewood. Sebastian Maniscalco, Mike Epps (who just debuted his new Netflix special, Indiana Mike, last month), Michelle Buteau, Cameron Esposito and Lil Rel Howery will also headline newly announced stand-up shows during the Netflix Is a Joke festival, along with many more comedians.
Comedy fans who are looking for a little variety beyond traditional stand-up are also in luck. The casts of Never Have I Ever (including co-creator Mindy Kaling), Big Mouth, Cobra Kai and Somebody Feed Phil will all hold live shows. Grace and Frankie stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are planning to bring the friendship vibes to a Ladies Night Live at the Hollywood Palladium. That same venue will host a trio of separate live tapings led by Amy Schumer, Bill Burr and Snoop Dogg, along with their famous friends. Yes, Snoop Dogg is even in on the Joke, as are podcasts like Best Friends with Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata, The Read with Kid Fury and Crissle West and You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes, all of which will perform live tapings during the festival.
Tickets for the latest Netflix Is a Joke events go on presale later this week, and will be available to the general public on Friday, April 8.
