This article contains major character or plot details.

Kate arrives in London as a strong-willed outsider, determined to secure a stable and happy future for her younger sister, Edwina, above all else. As the eldest sister, Kate takes on the primary responsibility for guiding Edwina on the marriage mart, often acting as her protector and decision-maker alongside their mother, Lady Mary Sharma.

She is direct, principled, and unafraid to challenge authority — qualities that repeatedly place her at odds with Anthony Bridgerton, the viscount she initially distrusts. Though Kate insists she has no interest in marriage for herself, her growing attraction to Anthony complicates her carefully drawn boundaries. Over time, Kate is forced to confront the cost of always putting others first, ultimately allowing herself to pursue joy alongside duty rather than in opposition to it. This journey leads her on the path to love — and to a place at the head of the Bridgerton family, as the viscountess.

Read on to learn more about the force who matched the Bridgerton viscount.

Season 2

  • Kate Sharma arrives in London from India with her stepmother, Lady Mary Sharma, and her younger sister, Edwina Sharma, intent on securing Edwina a strong marriage.
  • Unbeknownst to Lady Mary and Edwina, Kate has negotiated with Edwina’s maternal grandparents, the Sheffields, believing marriage will secure Edwina’s financial future. The deal states that Edwina must marry a member of the ton to obtain an inheritance, which would be used for her dowry.
  • The Sharmas are sponsored by and stay with Lady Danbury throughout the London season.
  • Kate first encounters Anthony Bridgerton during an early-morning ride in the park, where she beats him in an impromptu horse race.
  • They meet again at the season’s opening ball, where Kate overhears Anthony declare his intention to marry without love. After Edwina is named the Diamond of the Season, Kate resolves to keep Anthony away from her romantic-minded sister.
  • Kate repeatedly obstructs Anthony’s early attempts to court Edwina, prompting him to enlist Thomas Dorset to distract Kate while he speaks with Edwina directly.
  • The Sharmas are invited to Aubrey Hall so Anthony and Edwina can spend more time together, with Edwina expressing interest in the viscount.
  • At Aubrey Hall, Kate and Anthony clash during a game of pall-mall, ending in a muddy stalemate that leads to a temporary truce.
  • The following morning, Anthony panics when Kate is stung by a bee in the garden, reliving the trauma of his father’s death. Kate calms him by placing his hand over her heart, and they nearly kiss before pulling away.
  • Despite attempting to maintain distance, Kate and Anthony struggle to suppress their attraction. Anthony ultimately proposes to Edwina before the Sharmas leave the estate.
  • At an engagement dinner, the Sheffields reveal the conditional dowry arrangement. Anthony condemns their cruel behavior, while Kate pleads with him not to hold the revelation against Edwina.
  • Anthony later admits to Kate that he cannot proceed without being haunted by his feelings for her. That even if she were to return to India after Edwina weds — as Kate has secretly been planning all along — he would never stop wanting her. Kate insists that Edwina’s happiness must come first and urges restraint.
  • During the wedding ceremony, Edwina recognizes the unspoken connection between Kate and Anthony and calls off the marriage, leaving both families facing public scrutiny.
  • In the aftermath, the Bridgertons and the Sharmas attempt to preserve their reputations while Kate and Anthony struggle to keep their distance, eventually giving in to their feelings.
  • The next morning, Kate is thrown from her horse during a storm and suffers a serious head injury. Anthony brings her to Lady Danbury’s home, where she remains unconscious for several days.
  • When Kate awakens, Anthony proposes, but she refuses, believing his offer is driven by obligation rather than love. She reaffirms her plan to return to India.
  • At the Featherington Ball, Anthony openly declares that he loves Kate and wants no one else. Kate accepts, allowing herself to choose happiness alongside responsibility, and the two are later married.
  • In a flash-forward, the newlyweds enjoy a game of pall-mall and a passionate kiss. Newton, Kate’s beloved dog, is too busy stealing a pall-mall ball to notice his parents’ love.

Season 3

  • Kate and Anthony appear as newly married and blissfully affectionate following an extended honeymoon.
  • They return in time for Colin Bridgerton’s engagement to Penelope Featherington, offering support and guidance during the lead-up to the wedding.
  • During this period, Kate and Anthony announce that they are expecting their first child.
  • Anthony suggests that they travel to India before resuming their full-time duties in Mayfair, so their child can spend time in Kate’s homeland; Kate agrees to the plan.

Season 4

  • Kate and Anthony return to Aubrey Hall as a devoted family with their new son, Edmund, named after Anthony’s late father.
  • Kate and Edmund remain at Aubrey Hall while Anthony travels to London when summoned by Violet, who’s concerned about Benedict Bridgerton’s growing attachment to Sophie Baek, the new lady’s maid.
  • Kate and Edmund arrive in Mayfair a few days later. The viscountess reunites with Violet, Eloise, Penelope, Francesca, and Hyacinth, who are eager to meet the newest Bridgerton — and the heir to the family name.
  • During a conversation about Cressida Cowper’s return to Mayfair as the new Lady Penwood, the other Bridgerton women express reluctance to attend Cressida’s ball. Kate, now with a softened perspective as a new mother, encourages them to give Cressida a chance to show she’s changed, rather than judging her solely on her past mistakes.
  • Kate attends Benedict and Sophie’s wedding at My Cottage. She playfully asks her family whose wedding they think they’ll be attending next.

Notable scenes

Kate and Anthony’s first meeting in Season 2, Episode 1, “Capital R Rake” (14:18–17:09)

Why it’s memorable: Kate first crosses paths with Anthony during an early-morning ride in the park, where the two engage in an impromptu horse race that Kate decisively wins. Anthony does not yet know her identity, but the encounter clearly unsettles him, challenging both his confidence and expectations. The scene establishes their dynamic from the outset: competitive, well-matched, and marked by a mutual curiosity that lingers long after they part.

Kate confronts Anthony about his marriage criteria in Season 2, Episode 1, “Capital R Rake” (37:30–38:33)

Why it’s memorable: When Kate encounters Anthony again at the season’s first ball, their introduction is anything but love-at-second-sight (though there certainly is passion). Having overheard Anthony describe his intention to marry for suitability rather than love, Kate confronts him directly, criticizing his rigid and dismissive view of marriage. The exchange sets the tone for their relationship, positioning Kate as unafraid to challenge Anthony’s authority or assumptions and establishing her reputation as someone who speaks plainly and expects accountability.

The Aubrey Hall library conversation in Season 2, Episode 4, “Victory” (26:34–28:30)

Why it’s memorable: In the quiet of the Aubrey Hall library, Kate and Anthony share a rare, unguarded conversation that moves beyond rivalry and attraction. For the first time, they speak candidly about the pressures of being the eldest sibling and the weight of responsibility each carries. The moment reveals a shared understanding that neither has found elsewhere, deepening their connection and showing that their bond is rooted not only in tension or competition, but in mutual recognition and respect.

Kate and Anthony’s dance at the Featherington Ball in Season 2, Episode 8, “The Viscount Who Loved Me” (47:36–52:01)

Why it’s memorable: At the Featherington Ball, with the ton whispering and Queen Charlotte watching closely, Kate makes a choice she has denied herself all season — asking Anthony to dance despite the judgment surrounding them. Anthony joins her without hesitation, publicly standing by Kate. The Queen allows the moment to unfold, her positive attention signaling approval and silencing the worst of the scrutiny. The dance becomes Kate’s quiet declaration: she will no longer deny her own happiness, even when the entire ton — and the monarch herself — is watching. The eye contact between Kate and Anthony is searing — and conveys much of the emotion they’ve avoided saying out loud.

Kate advises Colin about Penelope in Season 3, Episode 7, “Joining of Hands” (28:44–31:18)

Why it’s memorable: Now settled into her role within the Bridgerton family, Kate offers guidance to Colin as he struggles with uncertainty surrounding his relationship with Penelope. Rather than issuing commands or judgments, Kate listens and responds with calm, measured advice drawn from her own experience in marriage. The scene highlights her growing confidence within the family and underscores her position as a steady, supportive presence — one who understands both duty and emotional complexity. It also shows the deep love and affection between Kate and Anthony.

Kate and Anthony in bed with baby Edmund in Season 4, Episode 6, “The Passing Winter” (5:45–6:47)

Why it’s memorable: At the start of the episode, we’re introduced to Anthony and Kate’s newborn son — and Bridgerton heir — Edmund, named in honor of Anthony’s late father. The scene shows the three together as a family for the first time, sharing a quiet, joyful moment in bed. This marks a significant change from when we first met Kate in Season 2, when she often put her family’s needs before her own and was prepared to sacrifice her own happiness for her sister and stepmother. Now she’s fully present in her life as the viscountess: a baby in her arms, a devoted husband at her side, and a family eager to surround her with love.
