An Ode to Harvey Specter from Suits

The man, the myth, the legend.

Suits is bursting at its perfectly tailored seams with iconic moments. The legal drama, which first premiered in 2011, has everything from courtroom tension to interpersonal drama to witty dialogue. The show ran for nine seasons with an incredible ensemble cast that includes Patrick J. Adams, Gina Torres, Meghan Markle, and Gabriel Macht.

While every character has their own undeniable charm, one of the pillars of the show is Harvey Specter, a sharp and extremely blunt lawyer who acts as one of the series’ main protagonists (portrayed by Macht). Whether you’re a seasoned fan or newly diving in, all nine seasons are on Netflix in the US, which means there’s plenty of Harvey’s trademark snark to dig into.

Here’s a look back at a few of Harvey’s best moments:

1. Harvey hires Mike

Suits wouldn’t be the show it is without Harvey’s counterpart, Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams). In the pilot episode, Mike crashes the hyper-competitive interview process for Pearson Hardman, the law firm where Harvey works. Mike is fleeing the police after attempting to sell weed and stumbles into a meeting with Harvey by pretending to be another candidate. It’s here Mike impresses Harvey with his photographic memory and wealth of legal knowledge. Mike hasn’t graduated from Harvard like the other job hopefuls, but he holds his own with Harvey. Mike lies to Harvey and tells him he’s passed the bar, leading Harvey to take a chance on the college dropout and kick-starting the series

2. Harvey and Louis go to couples counseling

It’s impossible to pick a singular Harvey and Louis (Rick Hoffman) moment that encapsulates the complex relationship the two have. The banter, innuendos, and constant bickering provide both comic relief and stakes to the series. In Season 8, Episode 6, Louis suggests the two go to couples counseling. With a lot of urging from Donna (Sarah Rafferty), Harvey finally agrees. In their session, Louis and Harvey go deeper into their hidden resentments toward each other, and we better understand what’s bubbling beneath the surface for both of them.

3. Mike and Harvey after hours

In Season 2, Episode 10, Mike is buried at work and grieving the loss of his grandmother. After work, Harvey stops by Mike’s apartment to check on him and quickly clocks that Mike isn’t doing well. In this episode, Harvey drops his normally curated facade to comfort his protégé. Harvey and Mike cut loose by smoking weed together and spend the night swapping stories, eating munchies, and getting to know each other better. It’s a bonding moment that brings them closer together and lets the audience into the softer side of Harvey.

4. Harvey and Donna’s slow burn

Harvey and Donna’s relationship develops gradually and is built on their friendship and mutual respect. Donna is one of the few people who knows how to put Harvey in his place when he needs it. While they have an endless number of memorable moments, their relationship comes to a crescendo in Season 9, Episode 10, when the two get married. Donna and Harvey hijack Louis’ wedding (who is Harvey’s nemesis-turned-friend) and have their own impromptu nuptials. It’s probably not a move you’d want one of your own wedding guests to make, but the moment highlights the evolution of Harvey and Donna’s relationship, as well as the friendship formed by Louis and Harvey.

5.  Harvey fights for an innocent man

In Season 1, Episode 12, Harvey advocates for a man named Clifford, whom Harvey assisted in wrongfully incarcerating 12 years prior. When new evidence comes to light that proves Clifford didn’t commit the murder, Harvey is desperate to turn the tides and get him out of jail. Due to mismanaged evidence, Harvey and Mike must take matters into their own hands to get a confession from the true murderers. This episode highlights the show’s nuanced take on the justice system, as well as Harvey’s own complicated moral compass and the lengths he will go to in order to right a wrong.
