Who doesn’t love receiving a mysterious package from a billionaire friend in the mail? In a new clip from upcoming Benoit Blanc whodunit, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, a colorful cast of characters receives exactly that privilege. Miles Bron (Edward Norton) has invited his closest friends to an island getaway where they will…  investigate his murder. The only catch? They have to solve an intricate puzzle box first. Thanks to Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event, we’ve got the clip (and an introductory message from writer-director Rian Johnson) above.

Fortunately, this crew is more than up to the challenge. Or, well, some of them are. Dave Bautista knows the atomic number of silver, Kathryn Hahn keeps her husband’s prying hands away from the box, Kate Hudson basks in the crew’s victorious puzzle-solving, Jessica Henwick looks on with curiosity and Leslie Odom Jr. keeps everyone on track. Finally, their efforts hit paydirt. Inside the puzzle box is  a tiny artifact, resembling the glass onion of the film’s title. It pops open, revealing an invitation. To quote a detective peer of Benoit’s: The game is afoot.

On set, puzzle boxes themselves also had a surprising secret: They worked! “The big thing is it is virtually all practical,” Johnson told Netflix. “Chris Peck, who was our prop master, worked with a lot of artists. Even if, with every piece of it, we’re isolating pieces and pulling things with levers and stuff to make it all work, it’s all practical, built stuff that we’re actually filming.” How’s that for a Knives Out Mystery?

Alongside the cast appearing in the clip, Glass Onion stars a returning Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc, as well as Janelle Monáe and Madelyn Cline (who wanders into frame at the very end of this clip).

As Blanc intones over the final moments of the clip, “This invitation is not to be trifled with.” Of course, you should still stream Glass Onion on Netflix starting on December 23. Consider that a much less elaborate invitation.

With five distinct celebrations, Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event includes first-look photos, never-before-seen footage, new trailers, behind-the-scenes access, celebrity appearances, interviews and more from over 100 of your favorite series, films and specials.
