Best friends Tully Hart (Katherine Heigl) and Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke) are stepping back into our lives — and hearts — on April 27, with Part 2 of Firefly Lane’s second and final season. And you can get a sneak peek into what’s coming up for the best friends via the trailer and a gallery of first look photos.
As a reminder, Season 2’s initial nine episodes follow the continued roller coaster of Tully and Kate’s 30-year friendship from the Washington countryside to one-sided TV stardom. There are highs (that flower child day in a 1970s field!) and deep lows, like a friendship-shattering car accident. But, through it all, the pair remain drawn to one another, even if they occasionally spend long stretches of time apart — and not really talking.

In fact, the trailer for Part 2 opens with Tully explaining that she hasn’t felt the same since she “lost her best friend.” She quickly clarifies that Kate is still alive and “actually probably great,” — but they’ve just “stopped speaking.”
As viewers of Part 1 know, Kate isn’t that great. While decorating a Christmas tree, she and her on-again, off-again husband, Johnny Ryan (Ben Lawson), have agreed to give love another shot and get engaged. But Kate’s happiness is dashed when she learns she has a “rare and aggressive” breast cancer. Desperate to see her oldest friend, Kate goes to Tully’s apartment, but she’s already left.
In the trailer, we see Kate and Tully through the years, coming together and moving apart, falling in and out of love and realizing that there are always going to be things that can’t be controlled. “That’s the thing about big life changes, you don’t get to choose when they happen,”’ Johnny says. “You just have to hold on tight to the people you love and make your way through it.”
Tune in on April 27 to find out how Kate and Tully’s story ends — even if a friendship like theirs lasts longer than a lifetime. Firefly Lane girls forever!
