There comes a time in parents’ lives when their kids have outgrown the shows they once loved as toddlers but aren’t yet ready for movies made for tweens. Thankfully, Netflix houses plenty of stories for kids between the ages of 6 and 9. These titles are filled with unicorns, dinosaurs, Pokémon, and StoryBots, and they keep the fun going with exciting adventures, catchy songs, funny moments, and valuable lessons.
Whether you’re looking to stream an episode after school, hit “play” on a movie for the long car ride ahead, or choose something to share with the whole family, these movies and shows are entertaining, educational, and readily available to watch — on repeat, if needed.
Ask the StoryBots
If your kid is curious and constantly asking you about anything and everything, they could be a future fan of the StoryBots. In this educational series, five inquisitive little creatures — Beep, Boop, Bing, Bang, and Bo — track down the answers to kids’ biggest questions, like how night happens or why we need to brush our teeth. Camp CrunchLabs
Meet Mark Rober — the former NASA engineer turned social media star, teacher, inventor, and philanthropist — who has spent his career encouraging kids (and kids at heart) to “think and build like an engineer.” In this unscripted series, Rober serves up space-themed science experiments with special guests like Zach King and the Muppets, and also includes fun challenges for viewers at home. Then watch Mark Rober’s CrunchLabs for more exciting tests, conducted atop moving trains and in a giant pool of Jell-O.
The Dinosaurs
Got a young fan of extinct animals? This four-episode documentary from the team behind Life on Our Planet charts the rise and fall of the dinosaurs — where they came from, why they mattered, and how they met their fate. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the series covers the creatures of the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, from prehistoric stars to lesser-known species of all shapes and sizes. This biodiversity demonstrates how dinosaurs evolved over millions of years in response to a volatile world.
Floor Is Lava
It’s the same fun game you’ve all played in your living room, with everyone jumping on sofa cushions and balancing on pillows. Except in this reality competition, the floor really is thousands of gallons of bright-red goop that simulate lava. Teams work together to try to complete the obstacle course, with the winners getting a sweet cash prize. (Season 2 competitors have to conquer a giant slippery volcano!) The onscreen fails will have the whole family laughing.
KPop Demon Hunters
Every afternoon is a “golden” opportunity to rewatch this animated musical adventure, in which a K-pop girl group uses their fans’ devotion in their fight against demons. The band, HUNTR/X, is composed of choreographer Mira (May Hong), rapper Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), and lead singer Rumi (Arden Cho). Enter Saja Boys, a rival boy band of demons trying to beat HUNTR/X at their own game. If your kid can’t get enough of this movie and its chart-smashing K-pop music, stream its sing-along edition, lyric videos, and bonus content.
Pokémon Horizons: Season 3: Rising Hope
Do you have a young Pokémon trainer in the family? Cue up this anime series to join Liko and Roy, two young adventurers on a thrilling quest to visit new lands, unravel ancient mysteries, and encounter Pokémon — and Poké Balls — they’ve never seen before! What starts as a simple search for clues about Pokémon behavior evolves into a sweeping mystery that only the most talented trainers can solve. Part 4 of Season 3 arrives Sept. 18.
Storm on Sesame Street
A big storm is approaching! In this half-hour watch, Elmo and his friends work together to get ready for the event, learning how to be prepared, find courage, and calm their bodies and minds when things feel scary. After the storm passes, everyone — including celebrity guests Michelle Buteau and Post Malone — pitches in to help rebuild Sesame Street. Parents, caregivers, and providers can also access Sesame Workshop’s free resources on emergency preparedness, available in English and Spanish.
Swapped
Journey deep inside the animal kingdom with this animated adventure about a tiny woodland creature named Ollie (voiced by Michael B. Jordan) and a regal bird named Ivy (voiced by Juno Temple) who magically swap species — and perspectives. The two sworn enemies are forced to experience life in each other’s feathers and fur to save their shared wilderness. The family-friendly film also features Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, and Justina Machado.
