No, you’re not Dreaming: Fresh from the series’ Comic-Con panel, a new trailer for The Sandman is here. The long-awaited adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s seminal comic book series is less than two weeks away, and we’re more than ready to enter the dangerous, irresistible realm of the Dreaming.

In the new series, Dream’s been away for a while — and not just because Gaiman’s last comic book featuring the character was published in 2015. No, Dream (Tom Sturridge) has been trapped in a bleak prison, one that jeopardizes the fate of both the waking and dreaming worlds. With the Lord of Dreams absent, literal nightmare the Corinthian (Boyd Holbrook) is wandering the world sowing chaos and undoing the Sandman’s work. When he returns from captivity, Dream will have to embark on a quest to mend what’s been broken and atone for a few of his own past mistakes as well.

The new trailer gives us a tantalizing glimpse into that story, as well as a look at the series’ Gaiman-inspired visuals, which range from the rainy streets of London to the deepest pits of Hell. (Yes, that Hell.)
Alongside Sturbridge and Holbrook, the series also stars Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Vanesu Samunyai and Asim Chaudhry. But it doesn’t stop there: Gwendoline Christie takes on the, shall we say, challenging role of Lucifer herself; Patton Oswalt provides the voice of Dream’s irascible raven companion, Matthew; and iconic actor Mark Hamill will voice Dreaming’s janitor, Merv Pumpkinhead. Meanwhile, Jenna Coleman plays a character who will sound a bit familiar to seasoned DC Comics readers: Johanna Constantine. (Yes, she’s related.)
An adaptation of The Sandman has been in the works for more than 30 years, making this an exciting premiere for the comic’s tried-and-true fans. This iteration is executive produced by Gaiman himself and David S. Goyer, with Wonder Woman screenwriter Allan Heinberg serving as showrunner.
So wipe the sleep out of your eyes, and get ready to join the world of the living. All 10 episodes of The Sandman drop on Netflix on Aug. 5.
