Prepare to meet several new characters when The Sandman returns for its second and final season this summer.
In the coming episodes, Dream (Tom Sturridge) reunites with his Endless family and is faced with one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds.
“We are excited to introduce the rest of the Endless family,” showrunner, executive producer, and writer Allan Heinberg told Netflix. “The cast of The Sandman is one of the best acting ensembles I’ve ever worked with — the loveliest people who very quickly became a family, on-screen and off. We were very lucky that our casting directors, Lucinda Syson and Natasha Vincent, worked overtime to find exactly the right people to fit into our existing family. Dream’s upbringing and the way he interacts with his family deepened our understanding of why Dream is the way he is.”

Keep scrolling for a guide to who’s who in Dream’s epic final chapters, arriving with Volume 1 (six episodes) on July 3, followed by Volume 2 (five episodes) on July 24, and a special bonus episode on July 31.
“The Endless are the anthropomorphic personifications of the forces for which they’ve been named,” Heinberg explained. “They are the living, breathing, loving, spiteful, neurotic, and noble embodiments of destiny, death, dream, desire, despair, and delirium — in (mostly) relatable human form.”

He may be new this season, but Destiny is the eldest of the Endless. A stoic, all-knowing, monklike figure, he carries the Book to Destiny, in which is recorded everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen.
“He was created first. As soon as the first creature or entity was brought into being, it had a destiny. So Destiny and Death are the oldest children of the Endless father,” Lester explained. “Destiny doesn’t interact with humanity as much as the others. He is much more of an entity. He is his job, and that’s what he represents.”
Destiny loves his siblings and wants to help them but knows there is nothing he can say or do that will alter their course.
Renegade Nell, Riviera, Mary Queen of Scots, Hustle, Girlfriends, The Day After Tomorrow

She is Dream's wiser, nicer, and much more sensible sister in the Endless family. In Season 1, Death took her brother Dream on a walk through London, where they had “this really lovely moment where they’re learning from each other,” Howell-Baptiste noted.
But in Season 2, “we see Death in relation to her other siblings for the first time, and her relationship with Dream grows.”
Sugar, Barry, Hacks, Killing Eve, The Good Place

The Sandman. Morpheus. Master of Dreams. He’s Lord of the realm we all visit when we sleep. In Season 2, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost him everything.
“At the start of Season 2, we find Dream in a place of rebuilding,” Sturridge said. “He’s trying to bring his kingdom back to its former strength. And he’s called by his brother to a family meeting, the consequences of which are enormous.”
Sweetbitter, Mary Shelley, The Hollow Crown, Far from the Madding Crowd

Also new this season is Destruction, the Endless sibling who abandoned his realm. He is the living embodiment of destruction — though he prefers to think of himself as an agent of change.
“Destruction is creation, and although he’s not a very good painter or artist — or a very good chef — he’s trying to better himself,” Sloane said. “He’s a beacon of change.”
He longs to live a life outside his function, where he can create rather than destroy. He loves and misses his family but has no interest in returning to his old life.
House of the Dragon, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Revenge

Dream’s younger sibling, Desire is the embodiment of everything you want.
“When we last saw them, Desire promised to eventually get Dream to spill family blood. They have this intense obsession with messing with Dream, proving themselves to him, and it could lead to disastrous results,” Park noted.
Season 2 picks up “in the aftermath of the familial tension that we saw peak with Dream and Desire’s very fraught last conversation.”
Quantum Leap, iCarly, National Anthem, Transplants

Desire’s twin, and Dream's younger sister, she embodies the moment when all hope is gone — the bleakest of the Endless. Season 2 begins with the Endless family “waiting to see if the prodigal is going to turn up or not,” Preston said.
This season, you’ll see “a lot more strength within her, and she’s a lot more mischievous,” the actor explained. “You’ll see a different side of her.”
Good Omens, Apocalypse Wow, Hard Cell, The Hitman's Bodyguard

Meet Delirium, the youngest of the Endless. She inhabits a sometimes ecstatic, sometimes incoherent realm, but she is always actively trying to navigate her way through it. Though her language can be difficult to follow, there is always a logic — if not a wisdom — that her siblings often miss. Delirium didn’t always exist in her current form; she used to be the innocent Delight.
“Delirium, to me, is the essence of the unhinged or the mad,” Creed-Miles noted. “If Desire is the essence of wanting and Death is the essence of things ending, Delirium represents that unique demographic of our social fabric that sees things a little differently than everybody else. That’s really exciting.”
