We’re not talking about velvet tracksuits or low rise jeans, but baggy ponchos and thick-framed glasses. Ugly Betty is back in style and all four seasons are coming to Netflix on Aug. 1.
Based on the 1999 Colombian telenovela, Yo soy Betty, la fea, the comedy-drama series premiered on ABC in 2006 and ran until 2010. Ugly Betty follows Betty Suarez, a 22-year-old Mexican American woman who lands a job as the assistant to Mode magazine’s new editor-in-chief. Coming from Queens, New York, Betty feels like a fish out of water working in high fashion Manhattan — and she’s constantly reminded of that. Still, she has big dreams of becoming a magazine writer some day and hopes to work her way up, even if some of her colleagues sabotage her.

Betty is an aspiring magazine writer who hopes to use her assistant position at Mode as a launch pad.

The son of Bradford Meade, Daniel unexpectedly becomes editor-in-chief of Mode and learns that he must give up his womanizing ways if he wants to be taken seriously as a leader.

This Mode creative director is resentful over not getting promoted to editor-in-chief, and she’ll do just about anything to sabotage Daniel and Betty.

Marc is Wilhelmina’s cheeky personal assistant and sidekick who always remains loyal to her.

Amanda is more than just Mode’s desk receptionist — she knows all the office tea and joins in on Wilhelmina and Marc’s schemes.

Hilda is Betty’s outspoken older sister who gave birth to her son, Justin, when she was 17 years old.

Ignacio is a widower who tries his best to keep his daughters and grandson happy at home.

Bradford might be the CEO of Meade Publications, but at home he has difficulty keeping his family drama at bay.

Claire is Bradford’s ex-wife who cares deeply for her son Daniel and often clashes with Wilhelmina.

This Scottish seamstress works in the Mode closet space and befriends Betty.
