In this deleted scene from The Sandman Episode 1, “Sleep of the Just,” Alex Burgess (Laurie Kynaston) confronts his father, Roderick Burgess (Charles Dance), about the mysterious “Sleeping Sickness” caused by their capture of Dream (Tom Sturridge).
For many, the great Dance is best known from his roles as Tywin, lord of Lannisters on Game of Thrones, Lord Mountbatten in The Crown, Lord of the La Brea Tar Pits in the ’90s absolute classic Schwarzenegger mega-merchandised super flop Last Action Hero. [Editor’s note: Yo, he was the snarky one-eyed villain in that movie, not La Brea lord, but I’ll let it slide this time cause it’s funny. Oh, and remember his implied snog with Ripley/Sigourney Weaver in Alien 3?]

Filmmakers cut scenes for various reasons, sometimes just for length, tone or technical reasons, and there are so many details in The Sandman that not all of it could make it on screen.

Including this scene with the ever-awesome Dance, who is the absolute master of the scowl. He is a total working actor, and really goes ALL IN on whatever role he’s rocking. It’s great to see him thrive these days.
