Shayne & Shaina Explain Those Flirtatious ‘Love Is Blind’ DMs

“The word inappropriate is inappropriate to use.”

    Sept. 27, 2022

Despite being arguably the loudest in the room, Shayne is barely seen or heard throughout Love Is Blind: After the Altar Season 2. Over the course of three episodes, he pops up only a handful of times: twice to have a heart-to-heart with ex pod love interest Shaina, and once during a boys’ night out with Kyle and Jarrette. Yet, as We Have the Receipts podcast hosts Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Chris Burns point out in their latest episode, Shayne is somehow still in the center of the Love Is Blind drama. And it’s all about what goes down in the DMs. From Shayne’s perspective, however, the answer is, apparently, not a lot.

“There are no nudes on the DMs or anything like that. I’m not that stupid,” Shayne swears to Lauren and Chris. As After the Altar fans know, the contents of Shayne and Shaina’s Instagram messages are a hotly debated topic. During the season, Shayne’s ex-fiancée Natalie claims he and Shaina were sending “flirtatious” messages within the last year, while Shayne and Natalie were dating post-filming and Shaina was rekindling her romance with now-husband Christos.

“There [were] just comments on what would have happened if they ended up together. How wild their sex life would be,” Natalie claims in an After the Altar confessional. “I think she was in a secret relationship with Shayne.”

Both Shayne and Shaina deny these accusations. “When they’re talking about these ‘inappropriate messages... The word inappropriate is inappropriate to use. Because there was nothing inappropriate about it,” Shayne says. He and Shaina agree Christos was “right behind” Shaina whenever she received any DMs, so they couldn’t be all that spicy. Instead, the messages were “funny” joke responses to Instagram stories.

“Me and Shayne are buddies. We were there for each other because we got slain and murdered [in public opinion] during the whole airing of the second season,” Shaina says. “But we were only just friends, We never hung out alone.”

Shaina is particularly surprised that Natalie is sharing these accusations since the trio had apparently “squashed everything” during the filming of the Love Is Blind Season 2 reunion. She and Natalie were even friendly “off-camera.” “So when the allegations came out, I was like ‘What? We were just fine. We were just talking a couple weeks ago before all of this,’ ” Shaina says. “It’s honestly kind of disappointing.”

At this point, Shayne simply hopes the gossip stops — or Natalie releases whatever evidence she has. “There was nothing inappropriate about our messages whatsoever. If [there] was, when she saw them, I wish she would have screenshot them and sent them to herself,” he says. “Because when you say stuff like that, I hope you have receipts to back that kind of stuff up.”
