Throughout Season 2 of The Circle, contestant DeLeesa repeatedly says that she’s competing in the social media competition for her daughter and husband — ironically, she’s catfishing as her husband. But when she reveals her true identity to the other contestants at the finale’s big dinner, she also lets them know she just found out that her family’s expanding by one more.
So, after she won The Circle (and its $100K prize), the group helped her break the news of her pregnancy to husband Trevor. “There was a point in time [during the finale] that I was able to FaceTime Trevor and let him know that I won,” she says. “In the background, all my cast members were like, ‘Tell him! You gotta tell him!’”
In honor of Season 4’s May 4 premiere, Chris and Lauren sit down this week with DeLeesa to discuss all things The Circle. In the interview, DeLeesa reveals behind-the-scenes details, including how production decorates those colorful apartments and even how contestants get groceries (the process is “like magic”). Plus, she breaks down her Circle strategy, including how much she studied with husband and catfishing persona Trevor beforehand. She also discusses the making of her so-called “catfish Bible.”
All that tea aside, Chris reveals his true motivations for having DeLeesa on We Have the Receipts when he lets slip that he would one day love to compete on The Circle himself. (“It’s like Survivor if you didn’t have to live on the beach and fight for your own food and you just got to stay in a secluded apartment.”) So, with DeLeesa’s blessing, he and Lauren get into a catfish-off — one that Chris does exceptionally well in.
