Season 1 of Russian Doll introduced us to Nadia Vulvokov (Natasha Lyonne) who was stuck living the same day over and over, experiencing her death in a time loop — just like Alan (Charlie Barnett), the guy she randomly met in an elevator. It didn’t take them long to figure out that their inevitable deaths were somehow linked together, so they set out on a mission to break out of their repetitive purgatories. When we last saw them in the Season 1 finale, they’d made some serious discoveries about the “box of timelines” we’re all living in — not to mention the chaos that comes with getting trapped in two separate universes.
In this first peek at Season 2, we get a special look at Nadia and her friends — along with several new characters joining the Russian Doll family. The next chapter, set four years after the events of Season 1, follows Nadia and Alan on an even more complicated existential adventure as they heal past wounds and discover all the ways time impacts our reality. “Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations,” the official synopsis reads. “At first they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.”
Lyonne returns to the Emmy-winning series as Nadia, along with Barnett reprising his role as Alan Zaveri. Greta Lee (Maxine), Rebecca Henderson (Lizzy) and Elizabeth Ashley (Ruth) will return as well. Season 2 also features newcomers including Annie Murphy, Carolyn Michelle Smith and Sharlto Copley. Lyonne serves as showrunner and executive producer on the series. Russian Doll is also executive produced by Alex Buono, Amy Poehler (Paper Kite Productions), Leslye Headland, Lilly Burns (Jax Media), Tony Hernandez (Jax Media), Dave Becky (3 Arts Entertainment), Kate Arend (Paper Kite Productions), Regina Corrado and Allison Silverman.
