Based on the incredible true story of Lenore Lindsey, Give Me Some Sugah follows a Chicago bakery owner who is stunned by an incredible discovery that inspires her to reclaim lost time, heal old wounds, and find purpose in life’s unexpected miracles. The news story went viral in November 2024.
Taraji P. Henson (Straw) plays Lenore Lindsey, and Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott (aka Joey Bada$$) (Two Distant Strangers, Creed) also stars. See Henson and crew in character in the first-look photos below.
Tasha Smith (Mayor of Kingstown) directs the film, which was written by Randy Brown (Miracles from Heaven). DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry produce. Tony Strickland and Angi Bones executive produce for Tyler Perry Studios, alongside Bart Lipton.
Straw, which premiered in June 2025, marked Henson’s first lead role in a Netflix original. The film, which received praise from critics and fans, spent five weeks on the Global Top 10 Movies (English), racking up 106.3 million views.
