Yeehaw! My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3: Everything to Know

The first season follows 15-year-old Jackie Howard as she moves across the country from dazzling Manhattan to rural Silver Falls, Colorado, to live with her new guardian: her mother’s best friend, Katherine (Sarah Rafferty), who is raising 10 kids with her husband, George (Marc Blucas). While settling into her new, chaotic countryside home, Jackie is determined to stay focused on her dream of getting into Princeton … all while wrapping her head around her feelings for two very different Walter brothers: the reliable and bookish Alex, and the mysterious and troubled Cole.

In Season 2 of My Life with the Walter Boys, Jackie is 16-years-old. Since she left Silver Falls in haste at the end of Season 1, Rodriguez says that her character is “trying to figure out where she belongs this season. She’s definitely not trying to lose either side of herself, and trying to make sure that they can coexist.”

Saddle up and learn everything you need to know about the lovable teen drama before Season 2 premieres:

What happened in My Life with the Walter Boys Season 1?

The first season finale started with wedded bliss, as Will (Johnny Link), the eldest Walter boy, finally married his girlfriend Hayley (Zoë Soul) at the ranch. But it took a hard left turn towards heartbreak when a drunken Alex told Jackie that he loved her at the wedding — and she didn’t say it back. To make matters messier, Jackie discovered that Cole fixed her late sister Lucy’s broken teapot, and had hidden it away once Jackie began dating Alex. Realizing how much Cole cared, she found him in the garage, and they kissed (!). The morning after, the boys found an “I’m sorry” note Jackie left behind. But she wasn’t there herself because she was already on a plane back to New York with her uncle Richard (Alex Quijano) and Danny Walter (Connor Stanhope), who was about to enroll in a summer theater program at Juilliard.

What is My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2 about?

Creator Melanie Halsall promises that “Season 2 is bigger and better,” she says. “We’ve got massive set pieces in each episode, and the stories are more intricate. We found our feet with our characters, [and] the actors really understand their characters now. When I was coming back, I was excited to start shooting again because I knew we had great stories to tell.”

The response to Season 1 blew Halsall away. “You never know what the audience is going to react to, or like, or dislike,” she says. “And then once the show did go on air [and] we were re-commissioned so quickly, it did feel like a complete whirlwind. Everyone was delighted!”

So, naturally, returning to set for Season 2 felt like a big reunion for the cast and crew, as it had been two years since they’d filmed Season 1. “Everyone was chomping at the bit,” Halsall says.

The cast’s own excitement is one reason why LaLonde thinks fans are in for a great season. “It’s awesome to see this show received well and to have people escaping to Silver Falls with us because it’s a sweet place,” he says. “And while there’s some dramatic stuff that goes on, I’m sure it’ll all be happy in the end,” he teases. “But how the hell could I know?”

The amazing reaction to My Life with the Walter Boys hasn’t hit stars Noah LaLonde (left, who plays Cole), Nikki Rodriguez (center, who plays Jackie), and Ashby Gentry (right, who plays Alex) yet. “It’s really hard to wrap your head around it, honestly,” says Rodriguez. “I don’t know how to feel.”
Psst! My Life with the Walter Boys is coming back for Season 2. “There’s nothing better. There’s really no better experience,” says Rodriguez about making the show.
Gentry calls Rodriguez the captain of the Walter Boys ship. And, in case you’re wondering, no, she did not have time to make a breakfast burrito this morning. “But I would’ve had one.”
Gentry owns his fuzzy sweater that looks straight out of Monsters, Inc. “It’s Fuzzy-Wuzzy. Literally, that’s what it’s called,” he says.
LaLonde suggests that the people around them might have a better grasp on what’s happening than they do. “Because we at least are from the inside, so it’s always skewed,” he says. “But my parents, they don’t know what life is anymore. My friends are like, ‘Dude, my For You page is ruined. I can’t go on the Internet.’ And I’m like, ‘All right, dude.’ ”
The trio went back to Calgary, where they filmed the series, for the premiere screening on Dec. 6. “I was so happy to have watched it with an audience, to hear them laugh, and to watch it with you guys,” Gentry tells his castmates. "I remember leaning over to Nikki during one scene and I was like, ‘You ate that scene.’ ”
LaLonde found it “really hard to set an expectation for something like this, because it’s my first time having anything like this,” he says.
“You know what I was thinking about the other day? I was like, if I were to try to describe to someone what this feels like, I honestly think the easiest way to do that would be [to say], ‘It is exactly as crazy as you would think it would be,’ ” says Gentry.
When the cast first read the script for the finale episode, “We freaked out!” says Gentry. “Oh my God, we freaked out.”
Returning to Calgary for the screening felt like “such a full-circle moment” for Rodriguez. “The crew was there, and it was a really, really nice feeling. And we all were like, ‘OK, that’s it.’ And then the show came out!”
“God, how do we even begin?” Gentry wonders aloud, when asked how the Walter Boys cast came up with their group chat name, “Pickle Rick Owens.”
Gentry’s favorite scene to film was the charged fight between Cole and Alex in the theater room in Episode 7. “We really got to play off each other,” he says. “And we got to wrestle, which was fun.”
LaLonde can’t wait to “hang out with our best friends” again when they return to the Walter ranch to film Season 2.
LaLonde loved filming his and Rodriguez’s tension-filled fight scene in the rain at the end of Episode 7. “Getting to have that experience with her, where we had only each other to lean into because no one else is going through it exactly the way we are — that’s when you put all of your trust in your scene partner,” he says. “And you just exist right there and right now. I’ll never forget it.”
The Walter Boys cast is more than ready to find out what happens next in Season 2 after Jackie “straight up runs from all of her problems, which is honestly so relatable,” says Rodriguez. “Mood, right?” Gentry asks. “Mood with a capital M,” LaLonde agrees.
What does coming back for Season 2 mean to the My Life with the Walter Boys cast? “Everything,” says Rodriguez.

Is My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2 based on a book?

No. Season 1 was based on Ali Novak’s popular Wattpad novel, and the author released a sequel to the book this past April. But Season 2 of the show is completely independent from the book and is an original story.

Creator Halsall approached Season 2 working within the first book’s parameters and framework, but with the intent of making the show its own thing. “It’s an amazing book, but we did change quite a few things,” says Halsall.

What are some of those changes? Well, Halsall was excited to explore new themes and ideas and to take the characters to new places, like with Alex’s rodeo pursuits and glow-up. And while the show isn’t edgy, per se, Halsall and the writers actively made the love triangle sexier this season. “I think the audience is going to really love that,” she says. The creative team also added some new characters to change up the dynamic and delve into other relationships fans might not expect.

Who are the new cast members joining My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2?

Say howdy to the new folks heading to Silver Falls in My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2:

  • Natalie Sharp (Wilderness, BH90210) plays B. Hartford — A champion rodeo rider who catches the eye of one of the Walter Boys. As confident and sure of herself as she is tough, smart, funny, sexy and cool, she has a bit of a chip on her shoulder about being a female in a male-dominated sport and knows she’s better than the rest of them.
  • Carson MacCormac (Shazam!, Luckiest Girl Alive) plays Zach — A strikingly handsome senior who’s commanding and a bit dangerous. With charm and confidence dialed up to 11, Zach makes strong attempts to get to know Nathan.
  • Janet Kidder (Star Trek: Discovery, The Man in the High Castle) plays Joanne Wagner — Grace’s mom who’s a bit old-fashioned and resistant to change. She’s also a good friend of Katherine’s, which proves a bit complicated as George and Will’s development plans in Silver Falls are underway.
  • Riele Downs (Bel-Air, Darby and the Dead) plays Maria — A flirty girl in Alex’s driver’s ed class, Maria takes a seat next to Alex before class begins — much to Kiley’s dismay.
  • Jake Manley (The Order, The Consultant) plays Wylder Holt — A rising star among bronc riders under 25, Wylder is a competitive force to be reckoned with who crosses paths with Alex.

What was filming My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2 like?

Tudum was on set with the cast and crew for the final week of filming. “It’s so weird because it doesn’t feel like it’s the last few days,” Rodriguez tells Tudum. “I really like it here,” she says while taking a stroll alongside the beloved Walter ranch. “And obviously I get to work with my best friends every day, looking at trees. It’s the best.”

On the last day of filming at the Walter family homestead, Rafferty, who plays matriarch Katherine Walter, was basking in the natural beauty of her surroundings. “Just look at this place!” she says. Calgary is known as the “Texas of Canada” for its gorgeous natural landscapes, and the Walter Boys set embraces that beauty. “It’s really magnificent, and having the opportunity to take that in at 3 in the morning and shoot outside and to [admire] the stars has just been really beautiful,” says Rafferty.

Rafferty’s on-screen husband, Blucas, agrees that when you’re out by the mountains in a place like the ranch, “it really doesn’t get much better,” he says. “It’s always the people along the way, but if the actual destination is pretty damn good too, then it’s tough to beat!”

While last season saw the cast take a road trip after production wrapped, that was during the summer months in Canada. November in Calgary bears much chillier temps. “We have our apartments for a little bit afterwards, so we’re definitely going to stick around,” says Gentry, standing in front of a heater. The young cast is so close that they’d been discussing seeing the holiday lights at Calgary Zoo, renting bikes, or heading to Banff. And while LaLonde knew the last week would be “an emotional couple of days, because that’s how I get with everything,” he couldn’t predict the biggest tragedy of the last week of filming — the cast’s favorite dessert eatery has closed down, providing plenty of fodder for their group chat. “We were really upset,” says Rodriguez. But fear not, the Walter Boys cast has a new spot: Cloud Naan. “It’s like Cloud Nine, but with naan,” says Gentry.

Who made My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2?

My Life with the Walter Boys is executive produced by Halsall, Ed Glauser, and Becky Hartman Edwards. Jason Priestley, who directed two episodes in Season 1, is not only returning to direct multiple episodes in Season 2, but will also serve as a producer.

Ashby Gentry, Nikki Rodriguez, and Noah LaLonde, the cast of 'My Life with the Walter Boys,' walk together in a studio lot, laughing and smiling.

How did the success of My Life with the Walter Boys Season 1 feel for the cast and crew?

Coming back this fall for another go around, the Walter Boys stable is a reality that once seemed like only a dream to the cast and crew. “I am beyond thrilled that My Life with the Walter Boys has been renewed for a second season,” showrunner Halsall told Tudum last December. “We have been overwhelmed by the love and support that the audience has given the show, and [we] can’t wait to dive back into the world of Silver Falls and the lives of these characters.”

After all, one December 2023 night “felt like an ending” for Rodriguez, LaLonde, and Gentry. They’d returned to Calgary for a special screening. The trio celebrated their success with a rousing cast dinner and then called it a night. “We all were like, ‘OK, that’s it,’ ” Rodriguez remembered. “Then the show came out!” And everything changed.

For the actors, whose Instagram followings skyrocketed following the series’ release, coming back for Season 2 meant “everything,” said Rodriguez. After filming Season 1, the cast found ways to still stay in touch, from their wrap party road trip to Vancouver to texting in their group chat, named “Pickle Rick Owens.” (It’s a long story.) Once Season 2 was confirmed, LaLonde couldn’t wait to “hang out with our best friends” again. Blucas told Gentry that making a series is the vacation. The work is the rest of the year. “That’s so real. You feel like you’re in a dream,” said Gentry. And no one is waking them up anytime soon.

When My Life with the Walter Boys came out on Dec. 7, 2023, all three of the actors were flying back home after their full-circle night out in Calgary. LaLonde had stayed up very late that night (think: 8 a.m.) reflecting on the show, and spent the release date in a daze as his phone lit up with congratulatory messages. “I didn’t really know what was going on,” he said. “It was a weird, weird day, but an amazing day.” Once Rodriguez and Gentry arrived back to their homes, they were both roped into watching the show again with their friends, experiencing everyone’s live reactions. “They were screaming at the TV,” said Rodriguez. “It was very funny. They were very invested.”

Gentry compares getting swept up in this project to being swallowed by a whale, like in Pinocchio. “You can’t really see what you’re inside of. You don’t really know what’s happening. You’re just like, ‘Wow, it’s dark in here,’ but everybody on the outside of you is like, ‘Oh my God, that’s huge.’ ” Those reality checks came in waves from, seemingly, everywhere — like the high school peers (“who I had one elective with”) texting Gentry out of the woodwork saying, “Yo, I watched all 10 episodes and I loved it.” After bringing author Ali Novak’s characters to life, the actors will forever be a part of the Walter world: “Once the show is out, it is never not out again,” said LaLonde.

But as for where Alex, Jackie, and Noah’s love triangle in the series will go next, now that Jackie has fled to New York — that’s “juicy with a capital J,” said Gentry. Rodriguez added, “Jackie straight up runs from all of her problems, which is honestly so relatable.”

Even the original table read of Episode 10, when they all read the finale script for the first time, was emotional for the cast. “We had been through so much,” said LaLonde. “Not only were the characters finding their peace at different levels, but we were [also] about to say goodbye. So it was like this closing of a book that you never know if it’s going to be reopened. And that’s terrifying. It’s really scary to look around the room and think this is the last time you do this with [these] people. Yeah, I could cry even now.”

Seems like the world is ready for them to reopen that book again. Season 2, here we come!
