Mark Twain is Team Coco.
Through his work on iconic animated series (The Simpsons), late-night shows (Saturday Night Live, Late Night, and The Tonight Show), podcasts, and more, Conan O’Brien has been making audiences laugh for 40 years. Now the Kennedy Center has recognized his contributions to comedy by presenting him with the 26th Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Comedy fans everywhere can soon watch the ceremony, which was held on March 23, exclusively on Netflix.
The prize is annually awarded to individuals who emulate the impact of acclaimed novelist and essayist Mark Twain on American society. In response to the news that he’d be given the prestigious accolade, O’Brien quipped, “I am honored to be the first winner of the Mark Twain Prize recognized not for humor, but for my work as a riverboat pilot.”

You can watch the special beginning May 4, exclusively on Netflix.

Though the title and premise of his wildly popular podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, cheekily suggests the comedian is a bit of a loner, some of the biggest names in comedy attended and/or performed at the ceremony in celebration of their very funny pal. The special features appearances by Adam Sandler, Andy Richter, John Mulaney, Stephen Colbert, Nikki Glaser, Sarah Silverman, Bill Burr, Will Ferrell, Kumail Nanjiani, and David Letterman, among many others.
Yes! While you wait to watch O’Brien accept his honor, warm up your funny bone with the 2024 special recognizing and roasting Kevin Hart.
Get even more laughs from the reigning Mark Twain Prize winner in other Netflix titles including Murderville, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special, and most recently, Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney.
