To her millions of fans around the world, Anitta is known as the Queen of Brazilian Pop. The musical superstar, acclaimed in her home country and abroad for her genre-bending fusion of pop, funk, R&B, and reggaeton on hits like “Show das Poderosas” and “Envolver,” is a trailblazer: Anitta was the first Brazilian artist to win a Moonman at the MTV Video Music Awards, as well as the first to perform on Coachella’s main stage. She was also the first solo Latin artist to reach Spotify’s coveted No.1 spot, which earned her a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Whether headlining a festival or performing in the Netflix series Elite, the Anitta the world sees is confident, daring, and vibrant.
Larissa: The Other Side of Anitta, the forthcoming documentary by João Wainer and Pedro Cantelmo, introduces the woman behind the curtain: Larissa de Macedo Machado. Through a series of quiet, intimate moments filmed away from the bright lights and adoring fans, the documentary reveals the emotional and physical journey that took Larissa from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro to the global stage. “Anitta is the superhero, Larissa is the human being,” Rebeca León, CEO and founder of Lionfish Entertainment, says in the teaser trailer.

When she began her career as Anitta, Larissa was passionate about bringing the often stigmatized Brazilian funk music to the mainstream, but she was told she had to make her sound more “pop” in order to be heard. Her persistent belief in the power of her music led her to succeed in bringing the spirit of the favelas to a wide and fervent audience. The film tracks her rise to global fame, revealing how Larissa learned to navigate the highs and lows of a life of touring, but it also goes behind the scenes, showing the superstar taking time to ground herself with family and setting off to climb Mount Everest. On this path of self-discovery, she faces physical and emotional challenges that lead her to rethink her personal and professional priorities.

The documentary will premiere in 2025.
