The 2025–26 NBA season has officially tipped off, and Netflix is diving deeper into basketball with a new project chronicling the illustrious career of Houston Rockets star forward Kevin Durant.

Netflix has teamed up with OBB Pictures, the film and TV division of OBB Media, and Boardroom to create the definitive documentary series charting the NBA great’s life on and off the court: his upbringing in the Washington, DC, and Maryland area, college at the University of Texas, his immediate impact in the NBA, and his role representing the United States in the Olympics.

Filming of the series began before the 2023–2024 season, ahead of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics — highlighted in the Netflix series Court of Gold — where he became the most decorated men’s basketball player in Olympic history. Production will continue during the current NBA season — Durant’s first with Houston — and for years to come as he approaches the final chapters of his Hall of Fame career. Now in his 18th NBA season, Durant has won two NBA Championships; been named an All-Star 15 times; and received an NBA MVP award, two Finals MVP honors, and four Olympic gold medals. He’s also the all-time USA Olympic scoring leader and the highest career earner in NBA history.

Directed by Emmy Award winners Michael D. Ratner (Kids Are Growing Up; Justin Bieber: Our World; Dancing With the Devil) and Robert Alexander (A Man Named Scott, SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, Shaq), the series features Durant’s most revealing interviews to date, with appearances by his mother, father, brother, coaches, and teammates throughout his career. OBB Cares and the Durant Family Foundation will provide College Track scholars from the Durant Center with the opportunity to serve as production assistants on the project. OBB Cares partner ManifestWorks, an organization that trains individuals impacted by foster care, homelessness, and incarceration for careers in the entertainment industry, will provide training for the scholars.

“It’s incredibly exciting to partner with one of the greatest to ever practice their craft. Kevin is undeniably one of the best to ever play basketball, but he’s also a fascinating individual with an untold story that will inspire and excite everyone who watches,” said Ratner, OBB founder and CEO. “After meeting with Kevin and Rich [Kleiman, Durant’s long-time manager and co-founder of Boardroom] it became clear that they would be perfect partners alongside Netflix and we’re thrilled to have them as a part of the OBB family.”

Executive producers of the series include OBB Pictures’ Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Kfir Goldberg, and Camille Maratchi; Robert Alexander; and Boardroom’s Rich Kleiman and Sarah Flynn.

Featured in the second season of Starting 5 — documenting the 2024–25 NBA campaign — Durant stars alongside Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, and James Harden of the Los Angeles Clippers.

As seen in Starting 5, Durant reached 30,000 career points a season ago — the eighth player in NBA history to do so — and now begins his next chapter with the Rockets.
