    ‘Family Reunion’ Part 5: Meet the Cast of this Sitcom About Family Values

Loretta Devine

Amelia “M’Dear” McKellan

Devine stars as M’Dear (as in “Mama Dear”), the indomitable matriarch who expects her grandchildren to be in church every Sunday as long as they live under her roof. She can be judgmental and oblivious to her own faults, but M’Dear always looks out for her family.

Devine won an Emmy Award in 2011 for her role as Adele Webber on Grey’s Anatomy. She also had supporting roles in Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher’s Wife, both earning her NAACP Image Awards in 1995 and 1996. More recently, she appeared in Netflix’s The StarlingNaked and Sierra Burgess is a Loser.

Tia Mowry

Cocoa McKellan

Mowry plays Cocoa, who’s married to M’Dear’s son Moz and still adjusting to life with her in-laws after moving to Columbus, Georgia, from Seattle. She has her hands full with a newborn and four other children to raise but is still hustling to promote her line of homemade jewelry.

Mowry starred on the sitcoms Sister, Sister and The Game. She also appeared in the 2002 comedy The Hot Chick

Anthony Alabi

Moses “Moz” McKellan

Alabi plays Moz, M’Dear’s golden child who decided to retire from his football career to return home with his wife, Cocoa, to raise their kids. Recovering from financial troubles, he’s now making a name for himself as a sports talk show host. He’s playful with his children but sometimes forgets to enforce the rules in his parents’ home — and M’Dear is always sure to remind him.

Alabi has appeared on the shows Shameless, Black-ish and Modern Family. He’s also in Netflix’s 2016 comedy Pee-wee’s Big Holiday

Talia Jackson

Jade McKellan

Jackson plays Jade, Cocoa and Moz’s eldest, who’s about to graduate high school and hopes to become a fashion designer. Extroverted and popular, she’s come a long way from feeling like an outsider among her peers. And while she’s still got an attitude, she’s no longer the moody teenager she was when she first moved in with her grandparents.

Jackson appeared in the ABC drama series Station 19 and the 2022 comedy The Prank.

Cameron J. Wright

Mazzi McKellan

Wright plays Mazzi, Cocoa and Moz’s musically talented middle son who finds himself navigating high school without his older brother, Shaka, who’s away at boarding school. He’s learning to be more independent and mature, but still can’t help pulling a few pranks on his little sister, Ami.  

Wright appeared in the Netflix teen comedy Tall Girl and did voice work on the Disney animated series Sofia the First.

Jordyn Raya James

Ami McKellan

James plays Ami, the youngest daughter who acts more mature than her older siblings. She’s always willing to help her parents and grandparents, even if it means taking on more responsibility.

James has appeared in the drama series Homecoming and as herself in the web series Kids React.

Richard Roundtree

Grandpa Jeb McKellan

Roundtree plays Jeb, M’Dear’s husband and Baptist preacher.He’s happy to have Moz, Cocoa and his grandchildren living with them but wouldn’t be upset if they found their own place. While he’s a bit set in his ways, his grandchildren have a way of opening up his mind.

Roundtree played the iconic role of John Shaft in the 1971 film Shaft, its sequels, and the TV series. He’s appeared in blockbuster movies such as SevenBrick and Speed Racer. In 1998, Roundtree was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his role as Phil Thomas on the drama series 413 Hope St.

Jasun Jabbar Wardlaw Jr.

Tyson

Wardlaw plays Tyson, a cousin of the McKellan children from Cocoa’s side of the family. Living with his mother, Cocoa’s sister Maureen, in Detroit, he’s been acting up since his father passed and hanging with the wrong crowd. His mother, an ER doctor who works long hours, is ready to send him to military school.

Wardlaw has appeared on the shows BMFAtlanta and Black Lightning.
