The fall equinox is upon us, and though it may not be getting chillier everywhere just yet, seasons these days are just as much a feeling as a change in weather. They are also an excuse for a full wardrobe makeover. Even if you can’t bust out those fur-lined coats just yet, there are colors, patterns, and textures that exude an autumnal aura. However, staying on top of fall fashion trends in 2025 can be a daunting task.

These stylish streams are perfect daydream fuel for the harvest season, as well as a veritable shopping list of motivation on what to wear. So whether you’re window shopping or pressing “add to cart,” the outfits in these series and movies make for a perfect autumn clothing guide.

New England may corner the market on cozy fall vibes with their color-changing leaves and crisp air, but the Pacific Northwest arguably knows best how to dress for the fall. After all, their rainy season is essentially half the year. In this Seattle-set rom-com, Susan Whitaker (Rachael Leigh Cook) is a mostly pro-bono attorney who agrees to take on a new client, Nick Evans (Damon Wayans Jr.), who wants to sue a popular dating site called Love, Guaranteed, arguing that after 986 dates, it hasn’t lived up to its promise. Susan, in her long wool coats, warm-toned sweaters, dark tights, and short skirts (not to mention pulling off a turquoise fedora and driving an adorable orange Karmann Ghia), has immaculate fall style. And Nick’s layering game, be it a fitted stand-collar coat with a cashmere sweater or a hoodie-jacket pairing, is the practical but put-together look that unpredictable fall weather calls for.

This spooky series literally starts with Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) narrating, “In the town of Greendale, where it always feels like Halloween …” which should give viewers a pretty good indication that autumn outfits are on the way. She may be on the cusp of initiation into the witching world, but Sabrina’s bright red coats, colorful turtlenecks, and vintage-inspired headbands, remind us she’s a pure-hearted witch. Her mortal boyfriend Harvey’s sherpa-collared leather jacket would make any high school girl feign a chill for the chance at a little shared warmth. And there’s plenty more lace, velvet, and vintage-inspired duds over the show’s four seasons to keep any fashion enthusiast enchanted.

This may be your quintessential enemies-to-lovers workplace rom-com, but it’s also chock-full of sharp fall outfits for the city gal (or wannabe city gal) or guy who wants to both keep it professional and embrace the season. In the film, Lucy Hutton (Lucy Hale) and Josh Templeman (Austin Stowell) are both assistants to dueling executives at their merged publishing house. As complete opposites in personality and business practice, they frequently clash, and a new job opportunity in the company has them in fierce competition. What isn’t clashing are their very on-point outfits. Lucy rocks business casual chic in her bow-tie blouses, puffed sleeves, gingham pants, plaid skirts, and high heels. Josh looks like he should be modeling fitted suits for a living, and he pops his collar on his fall coat like a pro. Opposites may attract, but a shared appreciation for fashion certainly adds to the appeal.

Yes, this series basically wrote the book on fall fashion, so it’s a no-brainer for a fall outfits list. However, since recent trends favor styles from the early 2000s, it’s an even better time to catch up on this cozy mother-daughter dramedy. The fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, appears to have been birthed from autumnal magic. Pumpkins line the town square, and characters are never without a scarf, a beanie, a pea coat, a fur-lined jacket, or accessorizing with a rosy cheek and a warm coffee in hand. Because they are close in age, mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) can share clothing, but their polar opposite styles make for a full range of fashion choices. Imitate Lorelai’s feistier choices with bold colors and accessories, or emulate Rory’s buttoned-up schoolgirl style for a preppy upper crust sort of look.

There’s something about the New England academic style that exudes fall. It may be, in part, that they have the sort of season that merits warm layers, but there are token looks that define this category. All such looks are on display in The Chair, where Sandra Oh is Professor Ji-Yoon Kim, a newly appointed chair for the English department at Pembroke College, who has been handed a department rife with infighting and office politics. Her tweed jackets, button-up blouses, pleated slacks, and stiff duffle coat don’t just give off autumn vibes, they exude intelligence and academic standing. Who doesn’t want to look autumnal and smart?

The Pacific Northwest wins again in this Portland, Oregon-set teen rom-com. Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) is a romantic bookworm who is in a tight spot when the letters she wrote in secret to old crushes are somehow mailed out. When she is confronted by former crush Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) and her former BFF/sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh (Israel Broussard), simultaneously, she panics and kisses Peter to avoid the confrontation. Thus begins a mutually beneficial fake relationship and a series of very cute outfits. Lara Jean has a colorful sensibility and absolutely slays in a mini skirt, knee-high socks, and thick boots. She nails the transitional weather look, pairing a floral dress with a bomber jacket like something straight out of Teen Vogue.

For those who love fall for its outdoor opportunities, like leaf peeping and hikes in the mist, this show about a ranching family in Colorado is chock-full of rugged Western wear. Here we have teen Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), a New York City native who relocates to small-town Colorado after an accident orphans her. Culture shocked by her new surroundings, her recent trauma, and navigating life in a house full of ten other children, Jackie has plenty on her plate. Which makes her growing feelings for two of the Walter boys, Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex (Ashby Gentry), extra complicated. Jackie’s fashion reflects her NYC style with sophisticated blouses, classy cardigans, and plenty of trendy athleisure wear for her morning runs around the ranch. From the boys, prepare to be romanced by plenty of flannel, denim, boots, and cowboy hats. By the time you finish, you’ll be convinced a puffer vest should be a staple in any fall wardrobe.

It makes sense if, when you think of Wednesday, you think of Halloween, but may we remind you that Halloween is in the fall, and Nevermore Academy has a perpetually bleak fall ambience. Plus, there’s something for everyone in the Nevermore students’ fashion choices. Embrace the rainbow-colored fuzzy sweaters sported by Wednesday’s roommate Enid (Emma Myers). Or if you favor darker hues, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) makes her uniform of a black Nevermore blazer, long dark skirt, and combat boots feel like an edgier version of East Coast academic preppy. Season 2’s camping episode is full of outerwear inspiration, including long-sleeve shirts under T-shirts, tracksuit pants, and Morticia’s black safari hat and mini parasol might be her most trend-setting look yet.

This 2024 movie starring Lindsay Lohan may have been released for St. Patrick’s Day, but hear us out: an early Irish spring is essentially the same as an early American fall, weather-wise. Here, Lohan plays Maddie Kelly, a book editor secretly in love with the author she works with, Paul (Alexander Vlahos), who, in turn, loves her best friend. She travels to Ireland for the couple’s wedding, encounters a strange woman, and makes a wish to be the one marrying Paul. She wakes up to a world where her wish has come true. In the midst of the magical chaos, Maddie sports a lot of great looks. She is almost always wearing a pattern, including a green and pink checked blazer, a yellow checked shift dress, a plaid dress with jean jacket combo, multiple tweed dresses, and so many great cardigans. And her love interest, James (Ed Speleers), lends new intrigue to a green Adirondack jacket when paired over a striped shirt or with a cardigan and button-up layered beneath. Not to mention, he makes a compelling case for more men to rock silk neckerchiefs.

2025 has seen the return of certain 2010s fashion trends, which makes Younger the perfect series to mine for flashback fashion inspiration. Airing from 2015 to 2021 and featuring New York’s young professional aesthetic, this series is about a 40-year-old mom, Liza (Sutton Foster), who pretends to be in her twenties to land a job at a top publishing house. Liza and her many younger associates and friends showcase a variety of staple 2010 pieces. Oversized bags, statement jewelry, crop tops, peplum blouses, and every millennial woman’s favorite, skinny jeans. Because New York is a definitive fall and winter location, the show is full of seasonal outfits: Liza’s slouchy cardigan sweaters, long coats, beanies and berets, and all the tall boots a fall girlie could ask for.
