Outer Banks

Season 1, Episode 4: 44:00

When John B (Chase Stokes) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) return to Kildare Island after a secret trip to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Sarah says it’s time to get back to reality and shed their assumed spy identities, Vlad and Val. But John B isn’t interested in keeping their partnership strictly professional — even if they’re from totally different worlds and Sarah has a Kook boyfriend. In an impassioned speech delivered in the pouring rain (talk about romantic!), John B calls the adventure they just shared the “best day of my life” and refuses to pretend it never happened. As he blubbers about their budding connection, Sarah cuts him off with their very first kiss.

Outer Banks

Two people, a concerned young woman and a blond-haired person, embrace closely in a dimly lit environment, suggesting comfort or reassurance in an emotional moment.

Season 1, Episode 7: 33:40

After stealing 25K from the drug dealer Barry (Nicholas Cirillo), JJ (Rudy Pankow) blows it all on a fancy hot tub. Yes, it’s a fun purchase in theory, but with restitution to pay off, the move isn’t exactly wise. Furious, Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Kiara (Madison Bailey) confront him about wasting the money. But as JJ stands up, they’re shocked to see that his body is covered in bruises. It turns out that when he returned home with the cash, his dad, Luke (Gary Weeks), made plans to gamble it away, which led to a physical altercation. As JJ breaks down, Kie and Pope climb into the hot tub to comfort him. With this emotional hug, the friends become found family.

Season 2, Episode 3: 40:40

John B and Sarah finally escape the Bahamas alive but a little worse for wear, with Sarah still recovering from being shot by her brother, Rafe (Drew Starkey). On the long journey back to the US, an exhausted Sarah suggests she and John B get married. John B fashions a ring for her from a strip of his father’s old bandanna, which she gladly accepts even though it’s not a princess cut. The next morning, they spot a shoreline just as their boat is running out of fuel. It’s Charleston, South Carolina, and little do they know that at that very same moment, JJ, Pope, and Kiara are driving across the Ravenel Bridge on their way into town as well.

Season 2, Episode 4:14:33

Once they all arrive in Charleston — John B and Sarah by boat and Pope, JJ, and Kiara in Mr. Heyward’s beat-up truck — both groups almost immediately find themselves on the run. As John B and Sarah try to get away from a man whose money they stole and JJ, Pope, and Kie evade Renfield (Jesse C. Boyd), all the Pogues surprisingly cross paths. Reunited, the five friends successfully escape their pursuers in a pedicab driven by John B. Woogity woogity!

Season 3, Episode 9: 44:30

Concerned about JJ’s negative influence on their daughter, Kiara’s parents send her away to a therapeutic camp called Kitty Hawk before she can head off with the Pogues to South America on a mission to rescue Big John (Charles Halford). With romantic feelings brewing for Kiara, JJ jumps into action, devising a plan to get her out of Kitty Hawk. Under the cover of night, he breaks into her cabin and apologizes for stealing from her dad, which had only complicated their chances of getting together. Before they make their great escape, the two confess their love to one another and finally share a kiss, as Kie’s fellow campers cheer. Who cares if they’re trying to be sneaky, right?

Season 3, Episode 10: 42:21

During the Pogues’ search for El Dorado, Cleo (Carlacia Grant) stops Pope in the midst of the jungle of South America to tell him how much their last few months together have meant to her. Then she unceremoniously declares that she’s quitting the No-Love Club, which the two founded earlier in Season 3 as a way to avoid heartbreak. Cleo sweetly plants a kiss on Pope’s cheek. Now knowing her true feelings for him, Pope leans in for more, and the two passionately lock lips.

Season 4, Episode 8: 10:00

After taking a pregnancy test in Episode 7, Sarah tells John B that they’re expecting a baby, and he’s shocked. Because they’re so young and because she knows John B and JJ have plans to go after the Blue Crown — her man loves an adventure! — Sarah admits that she’s been afraid to break the news. Soothing her anxieties, John B holds her close and says, “I love you.” He then sweetly reminds Sarah that they’ve always figured things out together, and this time will be no different.

Season 4, Episode 10: 48:00

All the resentment that’s built up between Sarah and Rafe finally comes to a head while they search for the Blue Crown in Morocco. As they’re being chased by mercenaries, Rafe confronts his sister about their father’s death, for which he’s always blamed her. Through tears, Sarah reveals that their dad gave up his life to save her — and if he were still alive, he’d want his kids to work together to get the treasure. Accepting that she’s the only family he has left and that she might actually have his back, Rafe agrees. The two seem to finally reconcile, and Sarah hugs her brother before continuing after the crown.

Outer Banks

Two people in a desert-like, rustic setting; one sits against a wall wearing a tan cloak, looking tired, while the other, dressed in green with a headscarf and goggles, supports them and appears concerned or comforting.

Season 4, Episode 10: 73:42

In a final act of heroism, JJ hands the Blue Crown over to his father, Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane), who’s holding Kiara at knifepoint. But the trade isn’t enough to save both of them. Betraying his son, Groff heartlessly stabs JJ (after he gives up the crown!) and officially claims the title of worst parent in Outer Banks history — and there’s a lot of competition. As JJ bleeds out, he tells Kie that he’s already gotten everything he ever wanted and asks her to take care of the others. After saying I love you one last time, JJ slips away, leaving a devastated Kiara behind.
