David Letterman has made a career of interviewing some of the most influential people in entertainment, culture and politics — and the next subject in his interview seat has played a role in all three. In a special stand-alone episode of Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, the legendary late-night host travels to Kyiv, Ukraine, to interview President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in front of a small live audience. Says Letterman about Zelenskyy, “When you first learn about the guy, it seems impossible to not find him appealing, and his story to be astounding. You just don’t see actions and deeds like this, people behaving like this, on the right side of things.”

The interview was filmed in October 2022, roughly eight months after the country’s unprovoked invasion by Russia. The special episode of the four-time Emmy Award–nominated series will premiere on Dec. 12.

To date, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction has 22 episodes spanning four seasons, with notable guests like Jay-Z, Lizzo, Barack Obama, Billie Eilish and more. The show puts Letterman back in the host’s chair after a 33-year reign in late-night television and combines humorous banter, thought-provoking questions and deep conversation to tell the story of society’s most extraordinary people. The series is produced by Jax Media and Worldwide Pants.
