No, your eyes did not deceive you: The Season 3 finale of Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black doesn’t just end with one of the show’s bloodiest cliffhangers yet, it also reveals who may be emerging as its next big bad.
After spending much of the season behind bars and consumed by the death of his son, Glen, Jules (Charles Malik Whitfield) returns with a vengeance, stepping out as the hidden boss behind Gina (Jasmine Burke), the cool‑headed collector who first surfaced in Season 2.
Together, Jules and Gina turn the Chicago nightclub Make It Rain into a war zone, as Jules uses Gina’s network to unleash a brutal attack that leaves Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams), Mallory (Crystle Stewart), and almost everyone in Rain’s (Amber Reign Smith) world in danger. By the time the smoke clears, it's evident there's a whole lot more to the former Bellarie head of security than anyone knew.
“Nobody believes in electricity until you turn the lights off,” Whitfield tells Tudum of Jules’s mindset during the attack. “Everybody wants the rain, but they don’t understand what the thunder will bring.” And for Jules, Whitfield says, the violence is bigger than revenge alone: “It’s not just personal. I think it serves many aspects. … Messages are being sent.”
So how did Jules get here, and what does his partnership with Gina — with him calling the shots — mean for the future of the series? The unexpected duo behind the finale’s bloodshed pulls two seemingly separate Season 3 storylines into the same crosshairs, completely upending the power dynamic and turning Jules from a grief-stricken Bellarie ally into one of the family’s most dangerous enemies yet.
At the start of Season 3, Gina and Jules appear to be living in completely separate worlds. While Jules is behind bars, Gina enters the season as a mysterious new force in Rain’s life, storming into her strip club and revealing that she is now a part owner.
Officer Alex (Bryan Tanaka) warns Rain that Gina may have ties to the mafia and isn’t someone to underestimate. But Rain refuses to be intimidated, setting the stage for a tense rivalry, and not even Kimmie seems able to protect her. “Rain still wants to stay at the club, and Kimmie is adamant about wanting nothing to do with it,” says Williams.
But Gina’s growing influence at Make It Rain is only part of the story. As the season unfolds, it becomes clear that there’s another player behind the scenes, one with a much more personal reason for wanting to tear Kimmie and the Bellaries down.
Jules, meanwhile, begins Season 3 behind bars after the FBI bust in Season 2. He’s consumed by two missions: escaping jail, and uncovering the truth about his son Glen’s death.
After Glen (Ace Small) dies in Season 2 from injuries sustained in a fall from the Bellarie family barn loft, Jules becomes convinced that Kimmie is responsible — even though he has no evidence to support his theory. “Grief can be relentless. When someone is carrying that kind of pain, they don’t stop asking questions,” Williams says. “The real question becomes how far he’s willing to go to get the truth.”
But viewers know there’s more to the story. Kimmie has nothing to do with Glen’s death and isn’t even home at the time of his fall. But she becomes entangled in the aftermath because her best friend Rain walks in on Kimmie’s younger sister, Sylvie (Bailey Tippen), and Glen having sex.
Believing Sylvie is being assaulted, Rain shoves Glen away. He loses his balance, falls out of the window, and suffers fatal injuries. After Glen is declared brain-dead at the hospital, Jules makes the painful decision to remove him from life support. But Jules’s grief doesn’t end there. Instead, Glen’s death becomes the driving force behind everything he does next.
In Season 3, Jules stops at nothing to uncover what happened. He manipulates an FBI agent by promising to lead investigators to crucial evidence, only to turn on him, escape custody, and launch his own search for revenge.
Once free, Jules’s hunt for answers quickly becomes something much more dangerous. His trail eventually leads him to Sylvie, who has been hiding since Season 2. When Sylvie finally reveals that Rain pushed Glen to his death while trying to protect her, Jules’s grief hardens into pure rage, and he responds with shocking brutality. Without warning, he shoots Sylvie dead.
By this point, Whitfield sees Jules as a man who has finally found something to drive him. “I believe he’s found his purpose, but I don’t think the pulse of what that really is has been fully revealed yet,” he says. Jules’s mission for revenge has only just begun.
Jules’s quest for revenge and Gina’s growing presence at Make It Rain finally converge in the Season 3 finale, and reveal that their connection runs deeper than viewers may have realized.
After walking into Rain’s club and revealing that he has been pulling the strings behind the downfall of Norman, Horace, and Olivia, Jules makes one thing clear: everything he’s done has been leading to this moment. His mission is revenge for his son Glen’s death, and Gina’s operation gives him the muscle to carry it out. “I believe he wants the world to feel how he feels. I believe that it’s deeper than just losing his son,” says Whitfield. “I think he’s in pain.”
And even though it’s Jules who’s calling the shots, Whitfield sees Gina as key. “I think that his relationship with Gina is very important,” he says. “I think Gina’s a character who gets it. She understands, ‘This is what it is.’”
At Gina’s signal, armed gunmen descend on Make It Rain, transforming the club into a battlefield. Kimmie, Mallory, and nearly everyone else at the club suddenly find themselves in the crosshairs.
The bloody finale makes clear just how dramatically Jules’s position has changed. He started the series as a fixer for the Bellaries. Now he has the motive, insider knowledge, and firepower to become one of their most formidable enemies. By turning Gina’s muscle and money routes toward his own vendetta, armed with years of insider knowledge about the Bellarie family, and a ruthless need to make someone pay for Glen’s death, he emerges as one of the most dangerous players in town.
The fates of Kimmie, Mallory, and nearly everyone in Rain’s world are hanging in the balance, setting up even more uncertainty for Season 4. “I would really like to see Kimmie and Mallory’s relationship deepen. I’d like to see them grow and work together to fix the mess,” says Williams. “We need to see who’s alive first.”
But whether Jules and Gina can stay on top — or even remain allies — is another question. As Whitfield puts it, “Everybody’s important until they’re not.”
So will Jules and Gina enter the already announced Season 4 at the top of the series’ ruthless power structure? We’ll have to wait until the next season to find out. Until then, watch all of Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black Season 3 now, only on Netflix.
