When last we saw ARCANE’s League of Legends champions Vi and Jinx, the two sisters were veering down completely different paths in the looming showdown between Piltover and Zaun.

The final chapter of ARCANE is now streaming, and according to co-creator Christian Linke, it’s been a long time coming. “ARCANE is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche Production,” said Linke during a League Dev Update. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of ARCANE wraps up with this second season. But ARCANE is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

ARCANE tells the origin story of two iconic League of Legends champions, who just so happen to be sisters. Jinx (Purnell) — also known as Powder — and Vi (Steinfeld) find themselves on rival sides of a brewing war between the utopian city Piltover and its oppressed underbelly, Zaun. Powder and Vi are completely transformed by the end of the first season, as Powder becomes the mischievous Jinx and Vi proves she’s one champion you don’t want to mess with.
ARCANE is based on the popular multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends, developed and released by Riot Games in 2009. The animated series was constructed by co-creators Linke and Alex Yee and was produced by the French animation studio Fortiche Production in partnership with Riot Games. The co-creators were initially drawn to Vi and Jinx’s origin story after having worked carefully on the characters for League of Legends. “I think it was a very organic magnetism toward them. They were just cool. They were really cool,” Linke told Netflix. Read more about how the world of ARCANE came together.

The world is more expansive than ever in the show’s second season and will go to places you haven’t imagined. Season Two picks up in the aftermath of the explosive events of Season One after Jinx launches a stolen Hextech gemstone at the Piltover council. “I think a lot of characters are the goody two-shoes of Season One, trying to avoid the open conflict between the two cities,” said Linke. “And then, at the end of Season One, it’s no longer possible to avoid that confrontation. And so, Season Two really explores the dark sides of the characters.”
Sisters Jinx and Vi are far from reconciling — Jinx must now reckon with her reckless decision, which may have jeopardized any possibility for resolution between Piltover and Zaun, as well as the effects it will have on her relationship with Vi. “One of the biggest themes of ARCANE is, you are the choices that you make, and you can never predict the consequences of those choices,” Purnell told Netflix. And with Jinx in particular, she added, “She goes to an all-time low and has to finally decide, is she Jinx or is she Powder?” Steinfeld, who voices Vi, remarked on her character’s growth throughout the series. “We’ve seen her deal with so much trauma, and we see her continue to do so — not always in a graceful way,” she said. “But she comes out the other side having learned a lot and having grown a lot.”
See above for the titles of the first three episodes, which say a lot: “Heavy Is the Crown,” “Watch It All Burn,” and “Finally Got the Name Right.”

ARCANE’s second season is bigger in many ways than the first season, with visuals that take the story to a whole new level. “It’s just really, really, really special,” said Linke, who credits Fortiche with creating what he described as “a very visceral experience.” Yee added, “We hope that fans still feel as though their characters have gotten a story that feels like it’s authentically theirs.”
Both Steinfeld and Purnell agreed that there’s something for everyone in Season Two. “I hope that [fans] watch it and feel like they can lose themselves in it,” said Steinfeld, with Purnell adding, “It’s heartbreaking and beautiful and devastating, and it feels satisfying. I’m really excited for people to watch it.”

Accepting Powder is gone, Vi comes to terms with what she must do — handle the monster she created: Jinx. Knowing how dangerous her sister is, Vi teams up with Caitlyn and gives in to her request to don the Enforcer badge.
Hawkeye, Sinners

Jinx was torn between two identities: the strong, powerful, daughter Silco raised and the fearful, weak, little sister Vi protected. Now, accepting she’s the monster that Vi created, Jinx becomes a hollow shell — she is the cursed "Jinx" that ruins everything.
Yellowjackets, Army of the Dead

Caitlyn is an Enforcer from Piltover. She once used her investigative prowess to expose the source of corruption in Zaun and Piltover, but after Jinx’s attack on the council, she’s abandoned hope for peace.
Bridgerton

Ekko empowers the Firelights, a group of Zaunites who build a new home they all fight to protect. He found an unlikely friend in Heimerdinger, and together they strive to make Zaun better.
The Wilds

Heimerdinger warned the Piltover Council about the dangers of using magic without tangible solutions for safeguarding its use. Learning from his mistakes with Jayce, Heimerdinger inspires Ekko to keep looking for a solution and works with him to solve the problem, instead of just offering advice.
Kung Fu Panda

Ambessa, a Noxian warrior and Mel’s mother, swears to protect her family’s name…even if it means going against her daughter’s wishes.
