I think they all know they could call me with anything on any given day, no matter what. And it doesn't matter how far in the future we are. Like, just, we really are the only people who understand exactly what we have.
And exactly what we went through.
[host] Mmhmm.
And that's seven years.
[host] Yeah.
["Left Hand Free" playing]
[theme song fades] What do you think is the funniest thing about Chase?
[chuckles] Me and Chase, uh… we're really similar in a lot of ways. Like, in our little diva ways. He's like underground sassy.
[laughs] Like… and I think that's my favorite part about him, is we'll low-key, like… we kiki. We'll definitely have our little diva moments together. Mm-hmm. I love it. It's just so interesting to think about the dynamic between Kie and John B.
Yeah.
In the first couple episodes. I kinda… It's funny you say that 'cause you forget there's a fling that's happening there.
So crazy.
Yeah. So many flings, you forget as the seasons go on. Yeah, like no Pogue-on-Pogue-macking, and then poor Kiara ends up being the master of the Pogue-mack.
Right. I mean, that's just how it goes.
Mmhmm. Can you believe Sarah, this whole time, is pregnant? And then her and John B. have a baby at the end of this?
No.
It's so insane. She's pregnant, and John B.'s becoming a drug dealer. So it's like really quite the juxtaposition.
[both laugh]
Shoot.
But that's why we love the show.
That's why we love the show. These unbelievable moments like this. This is why we eat it up. We're like, "She's having a baby."
"And another thing… he's dealing drugs."
[laughs] Always.
Yes. Gotta pay the bills.
Love don't pay the bills. Do you have a memory early on that made you feel welcomed right away? Like, maybe a cast night out or anything like that? Our first day… Well, my first day, unofficial day, on set. But I went to set, and I sort of met everyone. We hung out that day, or hung out that night. Like, after they wrapped, we went, we hung out. Literally just played games, hopped in the pool. It was COVID, so we didn't get to… we weren't able to go out with anyone, but we were just… literally just hanging out. Like, as friends, everyone came over. Speaking of COVID, when you guys were on lockdown and then you'd get out into the world, people are going crazy over you.
Mmhmm.
What was that like? I had a different experience because I sort of already knew what was gonna happen.
You knew the hype. [chuckles]
Yeah. [laughs] So I was able to fully prepare for that, but it was like…
[imitates explosion] You know?
Overnight?
Yeah. What do you wanna say to the people in this book that you haven't gotten to say yet?
[inhales sharply] I feel like I always say what I'm feeling.
[laughs] Like, they've heard it all. Um, that I love them. And I think they all know they could call me with anything on any given day, no matter what. And it doesn't matter how far in the future we are. Like, just, we really are the only people who understand exactly what we have.
And exactly what we went through.
Mmhmm.
And that's seven years.
Yeah. I go into other projects, and I always… I come home after maybe a particularly long day, or a tough day, and I just like… I always kind of just say my thank-yous. And to Outer Banks is usually… it's usually like number one. When I'm grateful I've made it through another day. Because honestly, if you can face this show, you can do anything, I think. It's… We've had so much fun, but it has not been for the faint of heart.
No. I mean, it really takes a lot.
Yeah.
And for so many years as well.
Yeah.
Yeah. The stamina.
Mmhmm. Yeah. Thank God.
Yeah. [laughs]
At least it kept us in shape.
You made it through, and you crushed it.
Yeah. There was nothing like that first… maybe first two seasons.
Yeah.
Just 'cause like it was… Like you said, we were just kind of out, having a good time with each other. We were out every weekend. We were like in our twenties. It was the first time... Transparently, none of us were financially stable before the show. And so, now all of a sudden, you give these kids who didn't have shit, a little bit of money in their back pockets, and we're all college-aged adjacent. And it's like a college town. Charleston's a fun spot. And it's a place you can get in trouble. It was way back when like nobody knew 'cause Outer Banks hadn't come out.
So it was just us.
Yeah. So we just… we really like took it all in. I always say Season One was kind of like summer camp on steroids.
It's like your first year of college.
Yeah. Like being on the football team because you're getting paid to be there.
Yeah. It's like NIL, man.
NIL.
[both laugh]
And nobody knows about it.
Right.
And then it progressively… You know, nobody really realized it. And then when it came out, everything's… everything changed. That's kind of diving into the fanfic of it all.
Yeah.
Which we know the fans love doing.
Yeah.
Just diving into the fanfic. How much have you guys read of that? Or do you kind of stay away? And you're like, "I know the script, and I'm keeping to the script." I haven't really read fanfics. I'm not like a fanfic reader.
[host] Yeah. I agree.
If I was, I would read ours.
But I'm…
Sometimes I have good ideas, though. Like when I see… Well, not, like, in fanfics 'cause, you know…
[all laugh] To be clear, we don't. To be clear, we don't. I've never read them, but there was this one…
[all laugh] If I did and they said this… Sometimes I would see fan theories, and I was like,
"Oh, that's actually really clever."
[host] Mmhmm. To wrap up, is there anything you guys would like to say to the fans that have been on this journey with you for five seasons? Maybe not a goodbye, but sort of a thank-you. Hmm. Hmm… Thank you for the ride. You know, thank you for all of it. Um, wouldn't have a career without a fan base that, uh, loved and supported. And, um, you've given, uh, me so many good moments. Um, you know, I've got friends for life, uh, because of this show. And I've got a connection to, you know, people around the world because of this show. It's too many emotions to think about, like actually coming to an end on something like this. But it is very like… I'm just in awe, and I'm so grateful. Thank you. Thanks for your love and your support over all these years. And if you miss us, just keep watching all the seasons over and over again.
I'll be doing that.
We'll be there.
[host] Yeah, I'll be rewatching right along with you. It's the end of an era.
[bright music playing]
