Kenneth: Is this Brittany?

Brittany: It is.

Narrator: Welcome to Relationship Rewind. The pods. 25-year-old Brittany and 26-year-old Kenneth are some of the youngest singles entering the pods.

Kenneth: Why do I have to explain the things that I desire for myself just because of my age?

Narrator: But these old souls immediately connect over their strong religious beliefs and the wounds they bear from growing up too quickly. Both lost a parent at a young age pushing them to seek something sustainable and positive in their adult lives.

Brittany: Having to go through things that mature you quickly sets you apart from other people.

Narrator: And that's not all they have in common. Kenneth, a middle school principal, is drawn to Brittany's experience as a former educator. The two are also completely aligned on the number of children they want to have one day, at least two, and ideally twins. Yes, that specific.

Kenneth: Yes. My mom and my aunt are twins.

Narrator: And the choice to wait to have sex until marriage.

Narrator: The Engagement. It doesn't take long for them to establish a deep bond. In episode three, Kenneth doesn't hesitate to get down on one knee and propose.

Kenneth: Brittany, will you be my wife?

Brittany: Yes.

Narrator: Brittany easily accepts, saying that God put Ken on the other side of the blue wall for her. When Kenneth and Brittany finally see each other, things seem to fall into place down to their matching black outfits.

Brittany: Oh.

Narrator: They both seem relieved and elated, and even a bit hot.

Kenneth: You look amazing. Thank you Lord.

Narrator: They keep it short and sweet knowing their journey is just getting started.

Kenneth: I'm choosing you every day. I love you.

Brittany: I love you.

Narrator: The getaway. Brittany and Ken jet off to the Dominican Republic to discover if their real life connection is as powerful as their emotional and spiritual one. Their vacation gets off to a strong start as they prioritize communication over everything, including nightly check-ins, unpacking the highs and lows of the day. Let's start with the highs first. The couple relishes in that cloud-nine kind of feeling that comes with spending quality time with your person. Kenneth is also extremely attentive to Brittany's needs, getting props from his future wife and the other women from the pod squad during the group's first meetup.

Kenneth: You want to share? Are you good?

Chelsea: Oh my God.

Laura: He's so attentive.

Chelsea: Are you kidding me?

Narrator: Things get more complicated though when Kenneth and AD have a candid conversation about dating outside his race. Both say they're concerned about how Brittany and Kenneth will adjust to the harsh realities of interracial dating, especially when it comes to starting a family one day.

AD: When y'all get married, she's going to have to raise Black children. Are you confident that she can raise Black children?

Narrator: But Kenneth is confident that Brittany will be able to overcome whatever trials lie ahead. Back in their hotel room, Kenneth brings up the conversation with Brittany who initially expresses some hesitation about AD's intentions.

Brittany: If they're coming from a root of thinking that I'm unable to handle it, I would view it differently, but I would hope that it's coming from good, pure intent.

Narrator: But the two work through discomfort, creating an opportunity for the fiancés to honestly address the challenges that may come with being an interracial couple. Ultimately, Kenneth says he needs to see how Brittany behaves back home, and most importantly, around the people who love him most.

Kenneth: I know that you're confident in this. I can hear you say that to me, but when I'm able to see you-

Brittany: To see it-

Kenneth: In the world.

Brittany: Mm-hmm. Actions aligning with words.

Narrator: As the vacation ends, they discover that they aren't on the same page about physical touch. Kenneth worries that he's smothering Brittany while she's craving more affection, creating some doubt about their connection.

Brittany: I did think I was like, "I don't really know if he's into me."

Kenneth: Really?

Brittany: Yeah. Because I was like, "He is not very affectionate."

Narrator: Real life. Back in Charlotte, the issues between them only deepen as work and family stressors, not to mention what seems like Kenneth's serious attachment to his phone begin to overwhelm the couple. The distance between them only grows as Brittany's analytical tendencies clash with Kenneth's low-key demeanor. When Brittany says she's missing the feeling of real intimacy in their relationship, things take a turn for the worse. The breakup.

Brittany: I feel like that desire and crave between you and I is the missing piece.

Kenneth: For you?

Narrator: The two ultimately decide to go their separate ways as Kenneth realizes he just can't make Brittany want him.

Kenneth: I can show up as me, but if you don't have a crave for me or us, that's true and that's you.

Narrator: While the two still have love for each other, Brittany says she's lost the connection they shared in the pods prompting Kenneth to end their engagement.

Kenneth: This is not going to work. But I do want you to find the person that you were actually supposed to be with, even though it's not me. I thought it was.
