Description: This documentary series details the decades-long treasure hunt in pursuit of Fenn’s hidden millions.

In 2010, 80 year-old Forrest Fenn hid a treasure worth millions in the mountains north of Santa Fe. The key to finding it lay within a cryptic 24-line poem, spurring a decade-long treasure hunt where people gave up their jobs, their families, and even their lives in pursuit of Fenn’s fortune. Now, for the community of devoted hunters, this dangerous pursuit of gold has become an obsessive search for the meaning of truth. This docuseries will focus on a treasure hunt where the treasure is actually found — something exceedingly rare — and how far people will go to get it.

Gold & Greed: The Hunt for Fenn’s Treasure premieres March 27 on Netflix.

[man 1] I was at a friend's house. He told me a guy by the name of Forrest Fenn hid some treasure worth, what, at the time, everybody was saying one to five million dollars. I would love to be a millionaire one day.

We're rednecks.

Hey.

But not stupid rednecks.

Yeah.

[dramatic music plays]

[woman 1] What if we told you there was a treasure chest somewhere in the mountains north of Santa Fe?

[man 2] Find the treasure chest, and it's yours. It's life-changing money. You have a map, and you get to solve it. You get to find it. Who wouldn't want to be Indiana Jones?

[woman 2] Forrest Fenn hides the treasure…

[woman 3] …more than ten years ago. And nobody's found it in all these years.

[man 3] In order to find it, you'll need to solve clues hidden in a poem. People went nuts.

[man 4] People started posting their solutions to the puzzle. Something to do with latitude and longitude.

[man 1] We used the cipher to decrypt the poem. We're coming, Mr. Fenn. We're coming. Yeehaw! We had it all lined up.

[man 4] This treasure hunt became this massive phenomenon. Forrest became kind of a godlike figure in the treasure community. And that's a lot of power to have. He lived in my head rent-free for 24 hours of the day.

[man 4] Over 300,000 people took part in it.

[horns honking]

[man 4] People spent years of their lives.

Two years.

Ten years.

We're not gonna stop.

[man 5] Whooee! It did turn into madness.

[man 4] The treasure hunters would do anything to get to the finish line. One of the treasure hunters decided to start stalking my daughter. At this point, four people have died.

[dramatic music continues] Your granddaughter's being stalked. People are breaking into your home. People started asking, "Forrest, why don't you call off the hunt?" Now that it was a matter of life and death. Do not call this off. **** happens. If somebody drowns in the swimming pool, sh-should we drain the pool? Or should we teach people to swim?

[laughs]

[dramatic music continues]

[bear roars] Ugh. I know that someone has rehidden the treasure. What the ****?

[dramatic music continues]

[music fades]
