[Alison Hammond] Did you enjoy My Cottage, Yerin?
[Yerin Ha] I loved it. It felt like summer school camp filming it.
[CLIP] [vibrant classical music playing] I'm going outside. Absolutely not. Mrs. Crabtree will not like it. You need to heal. You may not condone my actions, but you will have to keep my secret.
[Alison Hammond] My Cottage, those scenes, steamy as. Do you feel like that cozy space and that provided that energy for the two characters to kind of fall in love there?
[Luke Thompson] Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's their problem, right? They're always falling in love in little bubbles. They can't do it in the real world. So they do it in the masquerade ball, which is sort of like one dream. And then, like, this weird cottage environment, which is outside the ton.
[Alison Hammond] Well, that's sort of the tension of the show, right?
[Luke Thompson] Well, for this story, I think, is how to get past the honeymoon. They're good at the honeymoon phase. They're good at, like, just being together in a dream world. But then it's like, how do you then be in a relationship, like, properly?
[Yerin Ha] It was like a short film because we were there for, like, two weeks. It was just, like, you and me, and then Susan and Billy who played the Crabtrees. And it was nice because it was like early on in the filming process as well. And I always say it's like quite a nice parallel to not only Sophie and Benedict, but also us, because that's where I really got to know Luke as a person and got to connect.
[Alison Hammond] It was early on, wasn't it?
[Yerin Ha] Yeah.
[Alison Hammond] So I suppose that's the moment you're really, truly falling in love, becoming friends as actors as well, and building that trust.
[Yerin Ha] Yeah.
[Luke Thompson] Yeah.
[Alison Hammond] How else did you build that comfort and trust between each other?
[Luke Thompson] It's quite organic.
[Yerin Ha] Yeah. We didn't do, like, any exercises or anything.
[Luke Thompson] Trust me.
[laughter]
[Luke Thompson] No, but, like, yeah. Like, it is. It's always a difficult one. I think what I was really pleased to find out very early on, the first scene we shot was the kite flying scene.
[Alison Hammond] Oh, really? I love that scene.
[Luke Thompson] Yeah. The first scene we shot together. And it felt like we'd done three months together, like in terms of, like, the… But it's fun because you sort of get to know each other through the scenes in a strange kind of way. I think I was glad that for Yerin, I sensed that, and for me as well, that you sort of…
[Alison Hammond] Chemistry is not something you can make happen. You sort of…
[Luke Thompson] There is… I mean, everyone has chemistry. There is or there isn't. No, I think there always is. I think everyone has some sort of chemistry. It's just about discovering together what it is.
[Alison Hammond] What do you think our chemistry is?
[Luke Thompson] What are you feeling?
[Yerin Ha] What are you trying to say?
[Alison Hammond] I feel like…
[Luke Thompson] What do you feel?
[Alison Hammond] Yerin should go and get a drink.
[laughter]
[Luke Thompson] She can go into the house.
[Yerin Ha] Try and get into the house.
[Alison Hammond] What I love about Benedict is the fact… Well, one, he jumps into the water naked. That bit's absolutely incredible. [laughter] Was it… was the water cold?
[Luke Thompson] You know what? It was absolutely freezing. But it was fun because I think filming can be so technical and so actually not very real. But the joy of filming is that sometimes you can do something very concrete, like just go and jump in that lake. Like, that's great. It's fun, but…
[Alison Hammond] Jonathan Bailey's jumped in there as well.
[Luke Thompson] I didn't know this. I didn't know that it was the same lake.
[Alison Hammond] Oh, it's huge. Yeah, it's the second set… Well, you know, the lake's huge, you know.
[Alison Hammond] [laughter] The lake's huge. And yeah, Jonathan was there too. It's iconic. It should be renamed.
[Luke Thompson] There should be a plaque.
[Alison Hammond] Yeah, you should sign it.
[Luke and Yerin] Yeah.
