With the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 now less than two years away, FIFA has officially kicked off the journey to the tournament’s historic Brazilian edition. At a launch moment on Copacabana Beach, the competition’s official emblem and sonic identity were revealed, marking the first Women’s World Cup ever hosted in South America. For a country where football lives in the streets, the beaches, and the culture, the countdown to 2027 blends the legacy of the game with a new generation of stars and stories.

Below is a complete guide to what fans can expect — from tournament dates and formats to how Netflix plans to cover the event.

When is the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Netflix?

Netflix is doubling down on its commitment to the global game: In addition to its previously announced exclusive US rights, Netflix secured the official broadcasting rights in Canada for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. This marks a historic first for the tournament on a streaming service in Canada and a major expansion of Netflix’s growing live sports footprint.

FIFA Chief Business Officer Romy Gai says the expanded partnership underscores a shared commitment to growing the women’s game.

And the matches are just the start. Studio shows and top-tier talent will supplement coverage with commentary and entertainment. In the lead-up to the tournament, Netflix will produce exclusive documentary programming spotlighting the top players, their journeys, and the explosion of the sport around the globe.

Who will compete in the FIFA Women’s World Cup?

To date, five teams have officially qualified for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, including host nation Brazil, Australia, China, New Zealand and South Korea.

Ultimately, 32 nations will compete in the tournament.

How the FIFA Women’s World Cup fits into Netflix’s live sports lineup

FIFA Women’s World Cup joins Netflix’s growing lineup of premium live sports, including the record-setting Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 3 boxing match — 2025’s most-watched women’s sports event — and last year’s co-headliner with Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, which drew 108 million viewers globally. With NFL Christmas Day games, the upcoming Canelo vs. Crawford fight, and WWE Raw live weekly on Netflix, the service continues to redefine how live sports reach fans.

“Our record-breaking success with Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor demonstrated the massive appetite for women’s sports and live programming,” says Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria. “I’ve seen the fandom for the FIFA Women’s World Cup grow tremendously — from the electric atmosphere in France in 2019, and most recently, the incredible energy across Australia and New Zealand in 2023. Bringing this iconic tournament to Netflix is not just about streaming matches — it’s about celebrating the players, the culture, and the passion driving the global rise of women’s sports.”

The Netflix-FIFA pact covers all languages and will include both English and Spanish telecasts. In Canada, deal rights include English and French language broadcasts. With exclusive rights across the US and Canada, Netflix is setting the stage for the FIFA Women’s World Cup to reach more fans than ever before — and helping redefine what’s possible for women’s sports on a global stage.
