When the first teaser trailer for The Ultimatum dropped, so did our jaws. The video — which appears at the end of Love Is Blind’s Season 2 reunion — reveals an experiment that asks its participants to break up with their current partner and enter a “trial marriage” with an entirely new person for three whole weeks. It’s a premise that spells delicious reality TV mess in neon letters. But before The Ultimatum hits screens, it’s making even more news: The show will debut an all-queer season.
While a lot of the details around The Ultimatum’s upcoming queer season are still being kept hush-hush, it’s confirmed that the new episodes are “coming soon.”
At least the first season of The Ultimatum is arriving very, very soon — as in, Wednesday, April 6 soon (with the finale airing April 13). The series shares a lot of its DNA with Love Is Blind, a dating reality show that can blow up any group chat. Like its predecessor, The Ultimatum is hosted by celebrity couple Nick and Vanessa Lachey, and comes from creator/executive producer Chris Coelen. Unlike Love Is Blind, The Ultimatum deals with six already established couples. One half of the couple is ready to get married... and the other isn’t quite sure. So, an ultimatum is issued demanding an engagement or a breakup, and the pair boards the series. Over the course of filming, each person chooses another cast member — from another ultimatum-bound coupling — to live with, experiencing what romance outside of their original relationship really feels like. Then, cast members play house with their original partner for clarity. We told you, mess is on the horizon.
Still, Ultimatum host Nick Lachey — and a quartet of very recognizable friends — can’t help but celebrate the power of reality TV love. To understand what we mean, click the video below.
