Can love wait? Life gets busy, sure. But at a certain point in a relationship, you’ve gotta make your mind up: Do you want to spend the rest of your life with your partner, or are you just on cruise control? In The Ultimatum: Choices, you’re one half of a couple facing that exact question. Can your (virtual) relationship withstand the challenges that come with being cast members on a show full of hotties facing the same question? That’s up to you and the choices you make.
Like the reality show it’s based on, The Ultimatum: Choices uses couples who’ve reached the limits of their patience for gameplay. You and your partner, Taylor (who is gender-variable based on your choices), are one of five couples sequestered away from the distractions of the outside world, with the intent of finding out if your current relationship will go the distance or if the grass really is greener. It’s time to marry or move on.
You and Taylor have been together for three years. Taylor’s a photographer with a, shall we say, rabid fan base on social media. As a result they’ve (again, their gender is up to you) never come out publicly about your relationship. Taylor talks a good game, saying it’s to keep you out of the line of fire. Do you trust Taylor’s reasoning, or do you think they're more worried about losing followers? No one wants to feel like a backup plan. In short order, you'll break up and start mingling with other eligible hotties. And that’s where our story begins.
As part of the game, you enter into a trial marriage, exploring your feelings for someone else in order to test the strength of your relationship with Taylor.
The Ultimatum: Choices is a pocket-sized drama factory disguised as a narrative dating sim. You’ll create an avatar, pick an outfit, and navigate a complex sea of emotions, lust, and loyalty. You’ll pick your relationship values, interests, and hobbies, and play dress-up as you search for the reassurance you need that Taylor is committed to you more than their online following.
Like the game’s name suggests, you’ll make an awful lot of decisions before the credits roll — well beyond the initial ultimatum that one member of the couple can give to the other. These choices influence how other cast members perceive you, whether they be platonic connections or something more spicy. Maybe you want to build bonds and play peacemaker. Maybe you’re in the mood to be a little self-serving and burn some bridges in the name of personal gratification. In The Ultimatum: Choices, there’s no shortage of options for what the heart wants. Just remember: Make your story true to you.
While Nick and Vanessa Lachey host the Netflix show, the mobile version changes things up a bit. Don’t worry, it’s still a familiar face: Chloe Veitch. That’s right, the British baddie from your favorite reality shows Too Hot to Handle, Perfect Match, and The Circle is here to keep an eye on all the questioning couples. Netflix Stories devotees will recognize her from her appearance as a relationship coach in Too Hot to Handle 3.
Quite a few, actually! Out of ten characters, six are available for romance, making up three unique couples. The other two couples? They’re more like your besties, offering support and friendship along the way. So, you’ve got plenty of romantic options without losing out on solid friendships!
Nope! The Ultimatum: Choices is playable even if you haven’t spent a moment engulfed in the source material’s drama. You’ll have to catch up if you aren’t familiar with the overall premise, but the game does a good job of filling in newcomers on how everything works. Honestly, a great way to play is to grab your mobile device and curl up on the couch while you’ve got the first two seasons of The Ultimatum screening in the background.
