Ever since Volume 1 of Stranger Things Season 4 dropped on May 27, we’ve all been racking our brains, trying to figure out what song would save us from Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) – and if our friends would even be able to guess it in a time-sensitive, life-or-death situation.
Well, now the mystery is much easier to solve. Spotify is partnering with Stranger Things to launch a personalized “Upside Down Playlist” for every listener. Launching on the music streaming service on June 29, the curated collection of songs will help you escape the clutches of Vecna’s trance in the same way Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) uses Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” to evade the Upside Down’s big bad.
The “Upside Down Playlist” features a mix of your recent and past favorites, all high-energy, empowering and inspirational. The tracks are combined with recommendations from the team behind Stranger Things to fully immerse you in the Upside Down, Hawkins-style. The collection updates automatically each day, and you can always find it on Spotify’s Netflix hub if you happen to misplace your cassette tape – er, playlist.
On June 29, the “Stranger Things Official Playlist” will also reveal a brand new Easter egg tied to the show. If you wait 11 seconds on the playlist’s homepage (while on your mobile device), you’ll be rewarded with a spooky surprise. After your first three visits, the Easter egg will appear every 11th visit to the playlist.
But wait, there are more Easter eggs to shine a light on. If you’re jamming out to the “Stranger Things Official Playlist” on your android, keep your eyes peeled for a treat when clicking the Now Playing view to go full-screen. Trust us, you’ll feel transported. And if you’re listening on your computer, you’ll see the same feature when you click on the progress bar.

Plus, new songs from the final two episodes will be added to the “Stranger Things Official Playlist” after Volume 2 drops on July 1. The playlist currently features “Psycho Killer,” “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” and, of course, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God),” which saw an increase of more than 8,700% in global streams on May 30 after Volume 1 premiered.
As you count down the hours until July 1, why not spend a nostalgic moment with Caleb McLaughlin (who plays Lucas Sinclair on the show)? The actor took over the “Throwback Thursday” playlist on June 23, selecting his favorite ’80s tracks — just a little something to help with our Hawkins withdrawal as we await Volume 2.
Get listening – and don’t forget to always keep your headphones handy. Max can attest.
