Stranger Things isn’t just a show — it’s a lifestyle. And that includes entering the ST universe in more ways than one. The Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales, for example, gives fans an entirely new way to experience their favorite characters, plot lines and a few familiar enemies using the RPG experience. It features fan favorite Eddie Munson and a roster of over 30 playable characters — and the ultimate villain has just entered the chat: Vecna.
On June 6, Vecna will be able to haunt the Hellfire Club as the first main antagonist that players can test their strength against. “We’ve designed his in-game abilities to mirror his show counterpart, as he marks your characters one by one and defeats them instantly,” game designer Hetta Inari Komi told Netflix.

But first, let’s back up and explain how the game works: Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales is a match-3 RPG set in the Stranger Things universe. Players can develop their dream team of favorite characters, like Eleven and Hopper, and take on familiar enemies, like the Demogorgon and Mind Flayer, in an exciting nostalgia-rich ’80s world. Game modes include puzzles and rogue missions where players can explore the Upside Down. Free idle coins, XP and other resources and rewards are generated between sessions and just waiting to be collected.
“We had so much fun designing Eddie alongside other Season 4 characters, and we really went wild with his special ability,” lead game designer Vesa Ylhäinen tells Tudum.
According to the game makers, Vecna isn’t the only update players can get excited about — there are also two new Hellfire Club campaigns, which will add depth to the lore of the game mode. A Lady Applejack variant of Erica is also arriving to bolster player’s squads with her strength (and sassiness).
“We hope the players enjoy this update as much as we enjoyed making it — this is just the beginning for what we have planned for Puzzle Tales, so keep an eye out and thanks for playing!” Komi says.
